For my part I am just to old to have to think of moving, but I might think about it. I might look into a retirement in the Caribbean although it would take me away from what family I have left. I would be open to suggestion if it came to having to endure Trump for four more years.

(4,846 posts)It will take me 5 years to get citizenship there so I can re-evaluate once that is done. But be sure, I will vote aboard and hopefully get a democrat in to fix the problems so I can come back.

(4,846 posts)But I know he won't deal with COVID properly and it will eventually destroy the economy. He won't need the fed to pump up the stock market anymore and I predict the drop will be steep. I am leaving before it becomes more out of hand than now.
But I am hopeful that I won't have to do that. It's just that I am prepared and an opportunity came up in the last few weeks that gives me the option to leave if I need to.

(8,200 posts)Trump's refusal to take the proper actions to halt the spread will make the next four year virtually like a prison. Right now I am unable to go anywhere for fear that I will get the damn disease. I only see the my son and grandchildren once a week and we try to observe all the necessary precautions. I have four grandkids here. 'Two are older and through college; the younger two are in high school. I really can't expect them to become hermits. So I just have to physically maintain the "safe distance" when they are around. This isn't living. It is a damn shame we have come to this.

CA, NY, New England, MI and other states of the Great Lakes region. The governors of these states need to start talks with PM Trudeau immediately to negotiate confederation with Canada.

Four more years of Trump (and especially his ineffective covid leadership) will crash our economy sooner or later.
That being said - it's not happening. Joe will be president.

(4,554 posts)And the Senate would not agree to such an abomination.
Not sure who else would need to be involved, but it wouldnt be in the cards.
There certainly are things to worry about if he wins, but that is not one of them.

(8,200 posts)The number of terms was changed following the death of Roosevelt who had four terms to a limit of two terms. A Republican controlled Senate has demonstrated that it has no qualms in dramatically changing the rules to suit their purpose. The latest example of the nomination and lifetime appointment to one of the most radical judges ever placed on the court demonstrates that the Republicans are determined to control regardless of precedence and basic decency.
If the Democrats win a majority in the Senate they should not hesitate to alter the court just as some six other presidents have done. We are in a fight to preserve the democracy which the Republicans are determined to transform into a system in which the president has absolute authority to do as they wish. A virtual dictatorship. It would relegate the Congress to little more than a rubber stamp outfit as in China and Russia. It is not a new development but one they have been attempting to implement dating from Nixon to the present. We are in a fight to save the Republic and I hope every loyal American grasps the danger that the Republicans have place it in.

(1,604 posts)If Trump wins, then I think the country is even more badly compromised than I had feared, likely irretrievably. At that point, I think it's time for Plan B: work to establish Cascadia. Create a Pacific Alliance, and an Atlantic Alliance Rebuild a base on step at a time.
I hope it doesn't come to that.

(25,895 posts)will let any of us in. Canada basically closed its border back in March or April, and shows no inclination to open it back up. All of Western Europe is out. Maybe places like Vietnam and Malaysia will let us in. And so on.
I keep hoping My Son the Astronomer, when he gets his PhD in a couple more years, will accept a permanent job in some country that's good to live in and will look kindly on his mother relocating with him.
In reality, relocating to another country is not going to be at all easy while this pandemic is still happening. And it's going to be happening for several more years. At least.

(10,885 posts)that a tRump win will guarantee my spending a whole lot of "vacation" time with them in Sweden, where they moved last July. In fact, not more than a half hour ago I was discussing this very possibility with them, and they concur.
How does one survive another four years of this treachery and misery? At my age, throw in COVID, and the possibility of demise rises exponentially. It may well be that, if tRump wins, he'll be the last president of my lifetime, and that's NOT acceptable. I understand the dismay of RBG when HRC didn't win in 2016. She thought she still had time to retire gracefully and let HRC pick her successor. How sad that didn't work out for her and for us.
