General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe George W. Bush administration gave us the phrase "shock and awe". I think the
Biden administration should give the GOP a demonstration of it.
If we win a trifecta, as I believe we will, we should leap into action while the salt of the Barrett confirmation and the stacking of the federal judiciary with unqualified ideologues is still stinging in the nation's fresh wounds.
We should appoint additional justices to the SCOTUS and create additional federal circuits with new seats to fill. Joe should have a short list for new SCOTUS Justices by inauguration day. ( Merrick Garland? )
We should move to confer statehood on Puerto Rico and D.C.
We should mandate masks and social distancing and create a governors' commission to mandate business and school closings on a state by state basis BASED ON SCIENCE.
We should rejoin the Paris Accord and make a national commitment to wean off fossil fuels in the foreseeable future.
We should enact a federal voting statute that abolishes the Electoral College, makes federal election days national holidays and standardizes ballot forms, voting by mail, early voting and polling place availability.
That's just a start. My primary point is that WE ACT. We need to ANNOUNCE what we are doing rather PROPOSE what we want to do. In short, we should be just as "bipartisan" as McConnell would be.
Can we talk across the aisle? Sure. Can we consider their ideas and concerns? Of course. But, what's that phrase they used to explain Trump and McConnell's obscene rape of our democratic system? Oh, yeah-----
"ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES!"

(25,156 posts)I think that is at the root of our political problems.
If we can curb the money, or at least reduce it drastically, I think it would be politically difficult for the Republicans to restore the old ways when they regain control.
