I just got an alert on my phone from Politico that Warren is going to put her name in for Treasury Secretary. Bernie wants to be Labor Secretary.
I have no issues with either one of them being in the cabinet, but I can't stomach 2 special election Senate races in 2021 in questionable states where popular GOP governors could run for their seats. This could be a nightmare.

(609 posts)First (and last), both of them will bring in a GOP Senator from their state as a replacement. Forget it.

(509 posts)in a special election. Gov. Baker would be a force to deal with in a special election in Mass. if he would run for it.

(3,697 posts)Despite her qualifications I don't see Warren getting a Cabinet post immediately because a Rep Gov would name her replacement until a special election is held. If we end up with 52 or more Senate seats that probably wouldn't matter though.
I don't see Sanders getting a Cabinet job for other reasons.

(1,123 posts)Two Republican governors. Sure there will be a special election, but what if Charlie Baker decides to run? Hes very popular here and could win, forget all his Moderate act, hes a full out Republican.

(7,447 posts)doesn't make it real.
Wouldn't make sense for either of them to throw away their power base for what could, in theory, only be a four year job.

(32,039 posts)Matters not whether Democrats are in the majority or not. As far as Warren goes she knows this was her last shot at the national ticket. If you really believe we are going to run another person in their late 70s then there is nothing I can say.

(9,952 posts)same party. Otherwise, give Warren Schumers job. But betcha seeing how smart Warren is, if she thought the seat would go to a Republican, she would not ask for the Treasury.
former9thward
(32,039 posts)That law was changed. Durbin would get Schumer's job before Warren would.

(32,039 posts)But she knows she can't go further on the national field. This was her last shot. Her only opportunity to do something higher would be a cabinet position.
LizBeth
(9,952 posts)and Biden that considered Warren for VP was willing to put a senate seat in jeopardy. Again, not buying it. I think these people are smart enough to know what is up better than you.

(11,635 posts)They have veto proof majorities. They could easily mandate who the governor chooses as an interim replacement for 5 months same as the GOP did in North Carolina.

Biden isn't choosing Warren.
She can do far more good on the Senate finance committee. Especially with her long tenure.
If you advocate to change the unfair laws, THAT is where it gets done.

The Treasury Department has never been led by a woman or a person of color, and Mr. Bidens allies have pointed to two leading contenders with ties to the Federal Reserve:
Lael Brainard, a Fed governor who served under both Mr. Obama and President Clinton, and Roger Ferguson, chief executive of fund manager Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America and a former Fed vice chairman. Mr. Ferguson is Black.

(1,648 posts)While they would both be excellent in Cabinet Positions and do extraordinary good for the American People, I would also like to see them writing laws and insuring their future success in the U.S. Senate to become U.S. Law of the land for decades. Because they are incredibility smart, know how to achieve their goals, and can steer clear of the viper pits set up by Corporate America to screw over the American People.
