How do we hold him to his promises without tearing him down or the party apart?

(509 posts)He'll pass the social justice/civil rights/statehood stuff, but I don't see massive tax increases as his first item on the agenda while the economy is still suffering, especially small businesses. I think that'll wait until later in the year.

(16,616 posts)he's got multiple priorities.
Just reversing what Trump has done in terms of Executive Orders will take some time, and most of us regard that as a priority.
Then there's voting, voting rights, stopping voter suppression, which is THE KEY to us remaining in power and forever ridding ourselves of minority rule. IF WE CAN VOTE, WE CAN WIN EVERY TIME.
Then there are COVID, Health Care, Systematic Racism (Voting Rights above is also part of repairing racism inequality).
Personally, I'm praying he isn't instantly attacked by people holding extreme views on either side. Immediately the Republicans are going to gang up on him.
How long will it take for Joe/Kamala just to UNDO what this sick monster has done? Just yesterday they removed protections on Grey Wolves. He's destroying something every single day.

(54,387 posts)We need to take a good look at the damaged land he will be confronted with, and understand that when all you have is two bricks, you can't rebuild a blown-up building within a week.
Everyone will need to contribute a brick or two of their own, and, maybe some Jimmy Carter-style helping out at the construction site as well.
Feeling perfectly justified in having caused the damage they have done, Republicans will try to block any Democratic administration in any way they can. That's not even a question. That's a given.
Just about the only thing we can count on is that there will be no Republican-initiated assassination plots against Joe Biden, because the last thing they want will be an enraged former prosecutor Harris sitting in the Oval Office looking for some payback.

(5,499 posts)Biden needs to get all 50 governors on the same page and come out with a national plan. Unfortunately, he needs to do this on week 1. He can meet with governors during transition and if the can build consensus, the plan can be implemented at each states level and then made federal right after inauguration.
I also think that if we flip the Senate, the House and Senate can have a bill ready to pass on 1.20.21 for a stimulus/relief package.
As far as foreign policy goes, his new SOS and him will be busy calling on leaders to let them know the adults are back in charge.
The list goes on. His challenges can be compared to similar challenges faced as new presidents by Lincoln, FDR and Obama. This is where experience pays off. I think his long tenure in the Senate and 8 years as VP will allow him to hit the ground running.
Oh...and no one knows what sort of bullshit Trump will pull in his last 2.5 months that will need to be fixed.

(89,250 posts)Stop seeing politics as just about the President although it is very important. But in order to make progress it requires the support of other parts of the govt also.
