Trump admin tries to block Nigerian woman from becoming the 1st African or female leader of the WTO

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/oct/28/us-blocking-selection-of-ngozi-okonjo-iweala-to-be-next-head-of-wto

Editing to remind DUers that Trump said last year that he considered nominating Ivanka to head the World Bank because she's "very good with numbers":

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/04/12/ivanka-trump-world-bank-1272068

And he's been making it clear at rallies that he believes Ivanka should be the first female POTUS, and not Kamala Harris.

He does NOT want to see any woman of color in any important role if he can't make Ivanka more powerful.

of a country of 200 million people. Also extensive World Bank experience. Also an MIT PhD to with the Harvard B.S. and MIT M.S.

Also consider how important brining Nigeria and the rest of Africa into tighter economic linkage to the Western democracies.

I would think more of a generalist would be an asset in the WTO role. Right now rigid positions are locked in. Also she would be more independent that the S. Korean candidate Yoo Myung-hee, who doesn't have international body experience but specific experience within S. Korea related to trade.

I guess all they see is her black skin.

and let's it be known he's fine with her, they could just ignore Trump's tantrum and appoint her 163-1. Then the precedent will be "if a country's government has been voted out, and the new one agrees with the rest of the world, the appointment can go ahead".
