In 1980, end of October polling had Reagan 47% and Jimmy Carter 44%. Reagan's lead see-sawed in September and October - hardly stable.
However, the atmosphere was governed by high interest rates, high inflation, long gas lines and the Iran hostage crisis. Reagan won in a landslide and we nearly lost the senate.
This year is the reverse - we have an incumbent Trump with Covid, a crashing economy, high unemployment, a perpetually lying and amoral president - that is the atmosphere.
Biden will win in a landslide. His lead is persistent and stable.

(18,656 posts)Since it is going to be a landslide I guess I don't even have to bother voting. What does one vote more or less matter?
Just in case it isn't clear-

(18,656 posts)That the predictions of overwhelming victory are more harmful than the doom and gloom posts. I want everyone to feel a sense of urgency that they need to vote because we may need every last vote.
I fully expect Biden to win the popular vote by a greater margin than Hillary did in 2016.However I also know that popular vote margin does not matter one iota.We need electoral votes and even though people don't want to hear it, just like many did not want to hear it in 2016, trump has too many paths to win the electoral college. I don't want us to take the role of the hare from the fable and ease up because we are ahead. Again.

(18,656 posts)to give the impression a person's vote is not needed.
We should have learned that it only takes a small percentage of votes in a few key states to see a victory slip away.

(16,846 posts)that our political pendulum swings every 40 years, roughly, in the U.S. 1980 ushered in a new era of Republican dominance in our government that had been in Democratic hands since 1932, so we were ripe for a change. Now were 40 years since Reagan was elected and were poised to take control of a country that has been wrecked by Republican corruption. If were smart, well seize the moment and usher in a new era of reform and government thats responsive to the peoples needs.
