From the hereafter Peggy Lee offers her support

I get Facebook notifications periodically from the Radio Indie Alliance where they have a top 75 songs from mostly Indie artists. Sometimes a familiar artist makes the charts. AC/DC has their new song on there as does Ambrisia. Sugar Sugar by the Archies somehow is charted this week,

But the most unlikely song on this chart is a Harold Arlen song called Happiness is a Thing Called Joe by music legend Peggy Lee. I wonder why this song made it.

Give it a listen. I think you will like it.

I will only ever remember this song in Ethel Water’s incandescent rendition of the song from that movie

Joe is always the ordinary guy, the regular, reliable guy. Joe ain't flashy, doesn't get much praise, doesn't like to complain. He's happy just to get the job done. And Joes always run under the radar, always surprise us. "That was Joe?" we say. "Joe did that?" we say. Even in the Nativity, maybe the most famous story with a Joe in it, he didn't get much credit. Joes are not about Joe. Joes are ok just being Joes. For us, that's plenty, more than anyone could wish for. Sorry I rambled on like this. I'll put a cork in it.
