I have a good friend who lives in Pennsylvania, and he's freaking out because of the reports that if the early returns show he's leading in PA., he'll declare he's won. The friend somehow does not get that no matter what Trump might declare, it won't matter. He, meaning my friend, could claim he's Emperor of Peru. But the people of Peru won't accept him as Emperor. Similarly, no matter what Trump tries to claim tomorrow, it's the final vote that will count. In every state. Not just Pennsylvania.

Somewhat more to the point, I honestly don't think that the votes in PA will be the ones that decide who is our next President. Those 20 EC votes, as important as they are, won't be the deciding votes. They really won't.

Oh, and this is probably far more to the point. Given that the early mail-in and in person votes are going to be the ones first counted almost everywhere, and conventional wisdom says those votes will be overwhelmingly in favor of Biden and other assorted Democrats, it's going to be giant fun watching Republicans suddenly demanding all votes be counted.

But, like you said, it doesn’t matter.

If the things Trump declared were true then the pandemic would have never happened, we would have the greatest economy in history, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama would be in jail, and his head would be on Mt Rushmore.

Why would anyone give any consideration to a declaration made by him?

I agree with both points you made. I don’t think PA is going to be one critical state that it has been made out to be and Republicans are going to flip hard on the “stop counting the votes” mantra.

Sure 2016 was traumatic. 2018 wasn’t. Did the polls not shake down accurately for that? Even in 2016 the polls were pretty accurate. The issue there was the large amount of undecideds who broke for Trump at the 11th hour because of James Comey’s turd blossom. Ain’t happening this time around.
