so the day before the election day "they" loaded new software into the voting system (I don't know where) so all the voting machines are having problems, the lines are long, and everybody has to vote on paper... at least at the precinct where I am working..... but people are staying in line and voting.
I might be wrong but this was no glitch or error but planned problems. Look for Trump to site OH in trying to complain about the outcome.
Btw we are crushing it here in Ohio.
Update... the machines are working now.

(44,973 posts)Apparently they tried to upload already voted file into the system and the file was too big.
So that screwed up all the electronic pollbooks. But I haven't seen it yet reported that voting machines are also not working.
"Franklin County has shifted to paper pollbooks for Election Day in a move that could make the voting process slower in Ohio's largest county."

(3,056 posts)It's got to be a royal pain for the people working the polls, but you can't hack paper. We should have gone back to paper after 2000. There's no reason we have to know the results 2 minutes after the polls close.

(3,056 posts)It's been going on since 2000 that we're all aware of. The republicans screwed with the programming in 2004 in places like Ohio...I remember reading that the machines started subtracting Kerry votes as the day went on. The companies that manufacture a lot of these voting machines are owned by Republicans, so who knows what's preloaded into them before election day.
I think Biden's going to take this today in a walk, but just like in 2008, it will severely wound the Republican party and turn it into a cornered animal...they'll be back in 2024 and we need to be prepared.

A very detailed accounting of how the Ohio 2004 Presidential election was rigged--even without electronic vote-flipping.
The book shows images of paper ballots where Kerry votes were cover by circled stickers, that you can buy at any office supply store, and switched to Bush.
Kerry conceeded way too early.

(59,503 posts)We moved in in December 2012 from NJ. The first time we voted, it was almost a culture shock. In NJ, we voted on machines where you pulled a lever after you were happy with your choices. (My three little girls thought "they" had voted as they pulled that lever when my husband or I told them they could.) There was supposedly a "paper trail" created within the machine, but you could not see it - which always made me a bit concerned.
In Vermont, we got a paper ballot and were told we could turn it in for a new one if we made a mistake - warning us not to cross out mistakes We then walked to the machine that tabulated them, where a Republican and Democratic official stood there giving out I voted stickers and explaining how to put the ballots in. We saw the machine increment the number counted after it read the ballot. (It was explained to us that double voting would register it as a mistake and the person could start with a new ballot.)
As you say, a hand recount could easily be done if there was a question.
This year, everyone in VT got a ballot. One choice was to fill it in and take it to the voting place. We did that for the primary where they moved the sign in process outside on tables. As we had some snow today, I assume it is completely indoors. We opted to fill it in and take it to City Hall last week - no lines.

We need more transparency with regard to the machines and the communications between the vendors and state officials.
It's almost like the situation with Dejoy where there's no accountability whatsoever.

I'm a software engineer, and if any of my management had approved this kind of release, they would have been terminated on the spot (problems or no problems). Way too much risk.
