I have figured it out

The difference between Democrats and Republicans is the following: if a Democrat texts salacious material, has an affair, uses a curse word inappropriately, once had a meal Not billed correctly in the expense account, he or she a compromised candidate. A Republican can pay for sex with A porn star, steal billions from the federal treasury, betray the trust and security of the United States of America, lie tens of thousands of times, and he is the righteous, legitimate contender for the throne.

The problem here is it it is the electorate on, don’t vilify me for this, both sides accept this somewhat readily. In theory, there should be widespread protest, general strikes, and disorder in the society. But there isn’t.

Anyway, we can blame plot devices from film and television which allow the viewer to identify with the amoral villain. Hitchcock demonstrated this brilliantly in the film Psycho when the car with the body of the girl almost stopped sinking into the quicksand bog, and for a moment we were afraid for the psychopath who murdered her, that his plan to hide her body might fail. . Other films, especially gangster films, cast the rogues as fascinating, funny, brilliant, shrewd, And sometimes extremely intellectual and perceptive. America now has been conditioned to appreciate villainy. And we have one. Actually, several.

Breaking Bad, the Sopranos, nurse Jackie, Better Call Saul. we actually elected one of those cuz they’re fun to watch.
I used to laugh when republicans complained about faltering moral standards. Now that it’s OUR standards at risk - empathy, good governance - I’m the one grieving.

Trying to rationalize the irrational is such an abstract effort. Especially, for an extremely rational person.

No offence, please.

I wonder about this too sometimes. You'd think being of a liberal bent, people would be more forgiving of lapses. Which are after all, human.

I've come to the conclusion it's not liberals... It's the perception of liberals and hounding of their weakness in the media and also because liberals tend to have shame.

We react and maybe even over react to the ginned up scandals. Take the case of the representative from CA who was outed as a bi-sexual and resigned... Really, the only question should be, was she a good Congressperson who served with competence, compassion, respect, and empathy for those she served? Otherwise, so what?

It's really shocking. But read about the accelerationist and white power groups like The Base, or the rationale behind Christian Nationalism. They won't call it fascism, but they will admit without a hint of shame they want a Strongman. Many of them don't even know what principles our country was founded on.

And it's visible in Europe too.
