I love the Democratic Party, democrats, liberals, progressives and any other moniker that one would want to call it...even the dirty, bad and profane ones. In fact, ESPECIALLY the dirty, bad and profane ones.
But Biden eeking out even a slight victory shows a mandate in light of all of the tactics they engaged in to quash us.
Stop letting the perfect be the enemy of the good.
If you expected we would sweep every election, you set yourself up for disappointment.
You *KNOW* they used Russian active measures, disinformation campaigns from both foreign soil and here at home, went to court, used the threat of violence to shut down campaign events, intimidated voters at the polls, and that still didn't work.
A Biden win is a defeat of Trumpism. In light of what all they did.
Biden's winning. Act like it.
And know that I love you...each and every one. We are the Democrats. Love is what we DO.
Oh, and Biden's winning. Act like it.
Don't let the conservative press continue you that since we didn't sweep every vote 100% that it means we are in disarray. We are not. We've won.
Head up. We made history.

Wait Until you KNOW how many ballots you NEED then BINGO! hey, look what we found.
I feel Biden's legal team in Wisconsin will not let that just happen.

(4,413 posts)Mostly what we've accomplished is to get Trump appointees out of the cabinet so that the executive branch can start doing its job again. But McConnell will still hold up everything in the Senate and then blame democrats for nothing getting done and then the GOP will take more house and senate seats in the midterms.
It's just four more years of gridlock and "Biden is a socialist" - just with Trump ranting from his penthouse instead of the Rose Garden.

Getting rid of Trump is a huge first step. Now the party has to figure out what went so wrong that it even got to the point that people were willing to give this assclown another four years. The mishandling of COVID alone should have been enough to decisively beat Trump but, obviously not.
Flame away, folks. Im glad its looking like a Biden win but there is a lot of work that needs to be done if we want to avoid situations like this going forward. Treat it as a huge wake-up call, as if 2016 were not enough.

(8,020 posts)not get a replacement for ACA when the fascist court voids it. Biden can undo dumpfs executive orders & hopefully have plenty of executive orders himself, improve foreign relations, be a true leader for covid response among other things but fascism will still be banging at the door, ready for another opportunity to finish this country off.

(7,436 posts)makes me wonder if a Biden victory is the rasping, faltering breath of a democracy on its deathbed. That Trump pulled in the amount of votes he did after his display of the last five years is a damning indictment of American character. This country is in serious, serious peril.

(90 posts)This means that lots of hard work will need to be done to get the senate flipped in two years and continue to hold the House. Also, the Occupant has set the precedent for using Executive Orders for every g-d thing that he knew the House wouldn't pass. Payback can be a mutha. Now, Joe is someone who respects the office and believes in the process, so that may be a no go for him, but I would and wouldn't look back.

(3,530 posts)The fight for those seats should being immediately after Biden takes office.
This is one step. That is the next step.
(Those numbers may change by one or two depending on race outcomes this election. I think two of the seats this term are filling the final 2 years of terms that are up in 2022. But either way there are still more than twice as many Republicans up for reelection as Democrats.)

(11,578 posts)If anything, it's the GOP that's in disarray. To hear them tell it, they have every situation and subject that Americans care about completely covered and under control, and have and are doing a superlative job.
If that's the case - even remotely - how is their party, the election and especially the state of the country such a massive cluseterfuck?

(23,191 posts)I had the exact opposite reaction last night - I HATE America and the tens of millions of fascists that live here. I feel like a Scandinavian person born in Nazi Germany - just don't fit. Half of America are Nazis and the other half are sane. Biden won the presidency, but will SCOTUS let him keep it or will they steal the country for the right wingers (Nazi-esque asses) AGAIN?
I felt a lot better when I woke up this am and Biden is ahead in WI! They could still steal this, and that is quite likely, but America didn't vote for drumpf, and that is at least a little comfort. We didn't take the Senate, so good things won't happen, McTurtle will stop them just like he did with Obama. But at least drumpf can't steal SS, healthcare & Medicare from us if he isn't president. That may be the best thing we can win this time around if we can keep the orange Nazi from infesting us for 4 more years.

(10,849 posts)Again, we had every electoral game/trick thrown at us and we prevailed. Not in the way we expected, but a win is a win and Biden has the inside track to ultimately hit the magic number, 270.
The Trumpers know this, too. That's why the howl, the appalling Trump speech last night because they will do anything to grab the win and not look back. I'm guessing that the wall around the WH was in preparation for the steal they knew was coming, one they'd carefully planned and were well prepared for the blowback. Think Belarus, the citizen pushback to an illegitimate election.
We need to get Biden's ultimate win certified and the inauguration behind us. We need to focus on that special Senate election in January, and then prepare ourselves for a full assault in 2022.
But for the moment, we claim the win of the WH, our continued though reduced majority in the House and go forward.
We're on the right side of history and we get to fight another day.
It ain't over until the last dog dies!

(1,910 posts)Even without the Senate Biden can reverse so many damaging orders concerning the environment and so much else. And keep Trump from really destroying the country even further. Trump would have let loose all kinds of terror his next term. Anything he does in the next 2.5 months can be fixed.
We just went to Publix down here in Florida. You could see the pick up truck Trumpers walking with their shoulders ducked. Most importantly, I just feel safer now, especially for my daughter. The world is a little less chaotic today.

(28,519 posts)I'm talking about how fucked up our country is that this election wasn't a blow out. So, yeah, we won the presidency but the soul of the nation is still in peril and needs to be fought for in earnest. To wit: love is love, Black lives matter, science is real, women's rights are human rights, no person is illegal. So, yeah, we won the battle but the war is just beginning as about 50% of the populous is obviously a-okay with living under fascism.

(2,408 posts)But trump won...
"The real winner in all this is clear. Its Donald Trump, and everyone who thinks like him. Even if he loses the election, even if he goes to jail, he won. He figured out what America really wants. He delivers it on demand, 247.
Donald Trump Remade America in His Image.
Trump will lose when all the mail-in ballots are counted. It still doesnt matter. A simple victory wasnt enough this time. We needed a landslide over Trump, in order to reject everything he and his party stand for. We needed to send a message loud and clear that his cruelty and lack of compassion had no place in twenty-first-century America. We missed that shot by a mile. Instead were getting a cage fight that legitimizes Trumps first four years in office, and how he got there. Turns out, a lot of Americans were like Trump on the inside. They were selfish and arrogant. They were lazy and judgmental. They were racist and homophobic. They were loud and aggressive. They were waiting for someone to give them permission to show it. Trump did just that. Hes shown everyone that you can get away with just about anything, as long as you dont have a conscience."
"Half of Americans are just like Trump. They want whats best for themselves, at everyone elses expense. They grow up thinking they can be anything. They believe they can do anything. They insist that they deserve everything, right now. Theyll go to great lengths to preserve this illusion.
If they dont get what they want, they demand to speak to the manager. It goes downhill pretty fast after that."
"We thought 2016 was a fluke, a glitch.
We thought 2020 would set things right again. Now were really starting to see whats going on, if we didnt before.
Trumpism isnt a bug.
Its a feature that weve been ignoring for a long time. This feature allows a white, self-proclaimed billionaire to steal an election and then spend four entire years squandering our future. It lets him inject fascism deep into our culture while taking away our rights, our jobs, and our healthcare. Millions of Americans will sigh and give him a second term. Theyll throw their hands up like theres no better option out there.
Half of Americans are willing to completely screw over the other half, including their own kids, because they think theyve got a shot at making it into the 1 percent. They would rather destroy everyones future than let one woman have an abortion. If its not any of those reasons, they just cant pass up a chance to stick it to liberals."
