Is the idea that high turnout favors Democrats

a thing of the past? This very high turnout seems to do the Rs as much good as it did Democrats. I used to think Rs always vote, but maybe they have to be turned out too.

My polling place line was an hour and a half longer than it usually is (usually none). I'm waiting for the state district house race results to see if the huge turnout benefited the Democrat there.

Though my polling place is generally red - that's why the local race might be interesting. Decidedly more people came to vote here than in every prior election since I've been voting here in 1994.

I'm a precinct chair in a GOP precinct with 3400 voters.

It went like 42% for Obama, 42% for Hillary, 47% for Beto. It's getting better..LOL..I won't have the results for this election until votes are certified. Our precinct is high turnout, but had significantly higher turnout this cycle. I don't know if they found many new GOP voters, but you never know.

that the turnout was high for the populist candidate. Since populists were generally associated with the Democrats, people thought that the vast majority of people were Democrats, and the Democrats would always be the victors if they could get people to turn out and vote. Now, however, it's the Republicans who have become more and more populist, so when the rubes come out to vote, the GOP benefits.

a populist certainly gets people fired up.

Strangely, the Repuke attempts to suppress mean that they don't get it either.

I wonder how they feel about trying to stop the 127K car votes in Texas now that they won Texas.

They apparently think that laws for easier voting only help black people and Hispanics vote. Some Republicans (I think McConnell does), support easier voting laws, so a few of them realize that they also benefit plenty of poor whites. I definitely don't think those laws hurt Democrats, but I don't think they'll hurt Republicans, either, if they'll make use of them.

This was not much about Trump as it was about downballot races and general voter suppression.

Yesterday, Trump increased his margin Texas with 52.3% from 52.23% in 2016

However, there are red pockets that still remained red. Gerrymandering is a factor. Our Republican state reps held their seats.

However, over all our county-wide races were held at about 55% toward the Democrats. We used to have Republican sheriffs, clerks, and judges. Over two election cycles 2016 and 2018, Republican sheriff, clerks and judges were voted out. Their challenges were not successful yesterday.

Gerrymandering is still an issue.

Obviously not an issue in state-wide races.

High turnout is essential for winning. High turnout does indeed help, but I don’t know if we can say it favors the Democratic Party.

I do believe high turnout at midterm elections favors democrats, though. But who knows?
