How did it ever come to this?

(16,370 posts)Every bit as much as they hate mine, if not more so. Lets just say if someone made me king for any length of time it would be very bad for some GOP politicians. And by bad, I mean bad in a Kim Jong Un sort of way.

Pure Republican propaganda 24/7, and they don't give a rat's ass if what they are saying has a grain of truth or not. They are appealing to the angry, the frustrated, the lonely, and the downright cruel and twisted. They are not few, and some of them are looking for hand to feed their emptiness, even if that hand is a claw, and demands a soul as payment.

(21,786 posts)the USA is a country that was explicitly founded on the principle of white supremacy. As long as the USA continued to have a majority white population, then white supremacy was maintained de facto if not de jure; demographic changes in the past few decades mean that whites will cease to be a majority of the population within the next 20-30 years (in some places like California whites are already a minority). The modern "conservative movement" is based on the exploitation of white racial resentment (goes all the way back to Nixon's "Southern Strategy" and Barry Goldwater running on an anti-Civil Rights Act platform). Trumpism is just cranking things up and saying the quiet parts out loud, and it turns out that around 60% of white people really like the message.

(29,199 posts)I grew up in a small town in Kansas... most people were republicans... even my parents "knew" Bob Dole. Sure there were the anti-fluoride people and the John Birch Society... but everyone looked at them as kooks and crazy people.
Now, 40 or 50 years later... 40 years of listening to Rush and his ilk... 40 years of changing demographics (they will always say they aren't racist, but they always cross the street if they see a group of black teens coming their way)...
we have Trumpanzees through out the rural parts of our nation.
They have been brainwashed to hate us.

(2,207 posts)To get me and my QAnon sister speaking again (it's been since April). There are these stories all across America in families, close-knit families. And then there are the friendship circles. That's the next big news story, or should be. And I feel like I've just woken up to this secondary horror (first one being covid) we have in our current culture. Meanwhile, down here in this godforsaken red-state, you have people screaming at each other in parking lots ' take off that fffing mask'... seriously.

(6,423 posts)That is what they bought and were sold and spread it among themselves over years non-stop by their media choices.
RW media wouldn't know truth, that aint their goal, it's to make $ and they manipulate the manipulatable to that end.
It's big onion to peel!
Meanwhile it's a loose affiliation at best, a political party with some fools needing to feel like part of a group taking it too far?
I took Rush getting the MoF as a big yuge FUCK YOU from Death Count Donnie, I am pretty appalled at this election being remotely close! I thought he had pretty much offended 90%+ of Americans, but RW was fed that Biden is sleepy, creepy, and feeble?
If you bought all that and ignore all his crimes and baggage, you are a little too into it, and blindly loyal?

(18,672 posts)I had a coworker 20 years ago who seemed friendly enough, until one day I heard her say she agreed with something Ann Coulter said along the lines of "liberals should be killed". Now they have a bloated orange mascot who's legitimized their horrible behavior, in a sense.

(14,856 posts)that if Biden is president, he's going to confiscate her savings and leave her broke. Also, Kamala Harris is a communist. How do you even begin to reason with someone like this? She's likely to start hiding cash within the walls of the house, or burying it in the backyard - and I'm her executor. What a mess that would be.
Meanwhile, on Monday my father told me he was going to have a loaded shotgun handy on election night, in case Antifa come to loot and burn his house in The Villages, Florida. He really believes this might happen. Also, Kamala Harris is a communist. I don't plan to call him until after the winner is announced, because I'm just too stressed out to deal with the crazy.
They hate us because they live in abject terror of us. Propaganda works.
