what would it take to get OCCUPY and the tea party together?

'Tea and Occupy' -- a discussion/debate between members of the two movements
http://nbcpolitics.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/01/09/9424662-tea-and-occupy-a-discussiondebate-between-members-of-the-two-movements

The Tea Party and “Occupy” movements have each generated considerable attention and helped shape the conversation heading into the 2012 presidential election. But seldom have the two sides engaged in a dialogue.

NBCPolitics.com aims to change that on Wednesday with a Web-only discussion between six members of the two movements – three “Occupy” protesters and three members of Tea Party affiliated groups. And we'd like you to participate.

The one-hour event, which will be live streamed on Wednesay from 4-5 p.m. ET, will be moderated by MSNBC TV’s Richard Lui. See below for an introduction to our panelists, all of whom all activists we’ve encountered in the course of reporting on the two movements.

Among other things, we’ll ask them about the issues most important to them, similarities and differences between the two movements and the impact they feel they are having on the political process.

the original one however... I do believe no small number of those are already part of the Occupy movement

what it takes to get them together is to cut out the tax this tax that rhetoric and focus on us all getting economically raped by the privileged elites

The Tea Party wants less Governmental influence over corporations.

They don't represent the same interests.

Great idea given these high-profile people are the face of the teabaggers: Rand Paul, Ron Paul, Sarah Palin, Michele Bachman, Dick Army, Eric Cantor. Yeah, right, Occupy should involve itself with this nutcases....NOT.

I remember all those racist signs held proudly by the teabaggers, I remember them all too well.

the BASE of the tea party has done this, and approached local occupy camps. This is against the recommendation of their leaders by the way. Yes, I have seen it. I even have photos of a don't thread on me flag (our local Tea Party members) during the march to the Police Station back in December to protest police brutality.

NBC is late to the party as usual...

but when they say WILL THEY WORK TOGETHER? It is already happening.

If falls in the category of WHAT DO THEY WANT?

Does this mean it is happening everywhere? No... nor will it happen everywhere. i suspect this is a function of leadership and base.

I see them as very different and incompatible. The TP is hierarchical and authoritarian, reactionary, technologically unsophisticated, old & often uneducated. Occupiers are pretty much the inverse of the TP profile.

responsible for US downgrade and will soon be against payroll tax cuts, when congress comes back.
You can't negotiate with TP they only believe in hostage taking and blackmail. They want only to underfund govt to the point we have to cut safty net programs SS, MEDICARE, etc. Tea party is for Grover Norquist pledge, OWS is for tax fairness.
This is the defining issue that is the source of most of all the problems facing of our nation. They are willing to lose an election, rather compromise. OWS must start to find and support candidates who are for the one percent, time is getting short.

What is occupy? Based on what they say, they are "bi-partisan".

Now there is a push for the "bi-partisan" Occupy to join with the Republican Tea Party?

Funny, when Obama say anything about bi-partisanship, folks almost have a shitfit, and call him all kinds of names. When Occupy says that's what they are; well that's just swell & dandy!

Folks will get theirs.....
for all of the bullshit they are serving,
and it will be due to their own stupidity!

Actually, it's jobs and Social Security. Those Tea Partiers, who are not the Koch Brothers, need jobs and the old ones Social Security, just like the occupiers do. However, I doubt if the discussion will be narrowed to that and will focus on it because if it does, it will deteriorate into the usual talking points of Social Security being an entitlement and that jobs can't be created without tax cuts.

If that happens, it would be morons on the right joining morons on the left. How could anyone think that the teabaggers are compatible with anything progressive? I'm sure most people involved in the occupy movement want nothing to do with this.

If this happens, the whole thing dies.
