A Martin County man thought he heard someone outside his bedroom door in the middle of the night Wednesday. Thinking it was an intruder, the man shot at them. But it wasnt an intruder. It was his pregnant wife, reports say.
Around 1:30 a.m., the husband heard a noise outside his bedroom door in Stuart, Florida, Martin County Sheriff William Snyder said during a news conference.
He didnt realize his wife wasnt in the room when he went to investigate with a handgun and then saw a shape in the hallway, which he shot at once. Upon realizing it was his wife he called 911 and told dispatchers he shot her, The Associated Press reported.
She was taken to a hospital, where she later died. The husband and wife have not been identified by deputies.

(46,703 posts)Two older people met on Match.com and began dating. The woman left her state and moved in with him. She had a pension which was greatly dwindled in the time they were dating. Then in the days before their marriage, she came home late at night and he shot her.
He got off. Lots of weird circumstances were involved. But he still got off.

And even if it is, what lunatic shoots a "shape" in a dark hallway?

(4,606 posts)How do you not notice if someones in bed with you? Not to mention, the first instinct on hearing something outside your bedroom is to check if your partner has gotten up to get a drink or whatever, or if they are still sleeping. Why would you shoot at a shape when there are other family members in the house? You dont shoot at what you cant identify.
Will be watching to see how the investigation on this one goes.

I'm not really buying this either.

(4,787 posts)If you thought there was an intruder in the house, wouldn't you wake up your spouse who is pregnant and sleeping next to you before doing anything else. Tell her to call the police, lock the bedroom door while you went to check things out.

(6,496 posts)why you assume the person you're hearing is an intruder? Likely, the poor woman got up to use the bathroom in middle of the night.

The odds I'd ever shoot anyone in my house (including myself) are zero.
Most U.S. Americans don't care enough about guns to bother owning one.
Owning guns is an onerous responsibility.
My name is Hunter, here and in real life, but I've avoided shooting meat for all of the twenty first century so far. Mostly I'm a vegetarian.
For what it's worth, I think many of these "accidental" shootings are domestic violence.
Gun fetishes are disgusting.
