General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI just got off a conference call with India.
It was a technical conversation, but our Indian colleagues ended the meeting by saying that they, and the whole world, is waiting to celebrate the end of Trump.
They hear the same thing from all their international contacts outside of India and the US.
The whole world wants it to be official.

(8,923 posts)I was going to email EarlG about having a program where we "Pay it Forward"
In other words, I'll pay for Star status for someone else, and they'll pay for Star status to someone else and so on, and on, ...
But, here is a BIG THANK YOU.
SWBTATTReg
(22,166 posts)and Earl said that they weren't able to help you, but since I hadn't used a gift membership that I was given before due to level of my prior DU contributions, I was able to do so (I didn't know of someone to give it to until you).
Like you said, perhaps one day you'll be able to help someone back in payment, that is, pay it forward. Earl, bless his heart agreed w/ my request to gift you a membership and he too, deserves credit too.
Take care, and I look forward to perhaps seeing you in the many varied discussions on DU that make it so interesting to all of us.

(2,375 posts)Don't know why they should care though. One of our sister companies is there, plus all of our SAP programmers/consultants, which is the group I deal with. When I conference with them they will sometimes bring up rump and say they support him, and I'll ask, "Why? I don't", and that ends it.

That's what happened in this case.
People I respect a great deal like Modi, generally because of their religious views.
To me, he's Trump lite, and my understanding is that he and Trump, unlike most world leaders other than dictators like Putin, got along.
It would be too much to expect a country with well over a billion people to be politically homogenous.
This said, there were several Indian teams on the call, as well as other American companies. Everyone spontaneously agreed with laughter that the world cannot wait to be rid of Trump.

The people who support Modi would also support Trump.

question everything
(47,534 posts)Yes, hard to explain the electoral college.
Someone even questioned the old system of voting by mail instead of online.
I explained that we are worry about hacking and that, not all voters have access to the Internet.
Later I was wondering whether if voting online can provide a trail to check.

(61,698 posts)but I think it'll be changed eventually. I think everyone needs a thorough civics lesson as to why we have had it for so long.
I also think trumpers need to be reminded that federal election results weren't known across the US on election day for the first century plus.

ETA: that's why Inauguration Day originally wasn't until March. (They changed it to January after 1933.)

I was like - WTF - this is my company and MY decision. When I was firm, he actually circumvented me and contacted my husband!!!! I was astounded.

However, they express concern about our system, not necessarily the actors themselves in the US, but that our laws are so antiquated or convoluted that such dangerous politicians can wield so much influence.
