Essential workers and Dr. Fauci absolutely deserve mammoth recognition.

I chose Biden because he is a symbol of America's fight to reclaim its original dream. He made this campaign about restoring the Soul of America, and demonstrating that Trump was an aberration. We can argue about whether or not Trump is an aberration, but I do believe Biden's victory is symbolically an enormous demonstration to ourselves and the world that Americans retain these essential values and aspirations.

(I wonder if Biden AND Kamala Harris together could both be considered?)

But if Essential Workers (especially including medical professionals) or Dr. Fauci are named Person of the Year, I'll absolutely rejoice. They deserve it, beyond any question.

But I know quite a few "essential workers" who voted for Trump. Mostly nurses but some doctors also.

I'm always appalled at that.

is the work they chose. What they didn't choose was the minimal support. However, they did choose to elect the ones who minimally supported them.

To choose him again after he's neglected them is appalling.

Essential workers certainly chose their jobs, they did not however choose a situation where their lives would be at risk for simply going to work to deliver packages, stock grocery store shelves, get the mail to your home, pick up garbage, push a dust mop in a medical facility or all the other countless jobs that keep our society functional. Those mentioned along with medical, EMS, hospital workers, doctors, nurses never signed up for a job that could very well be their own death warrant.

Their work and their politics are two entirely different things, I'm sorry that you seem to be unable to see that

She represents the political force of the under-estimated populations: black, female. And in an election cycle where democracy was under attack, she represents the power of a single vote. Every vote counts. In America, right matters. The U.S. is indebted to her leadership. We are so fucking blessed.

Sadly, I think it might have to be the tiniest nominee ever: this fucking virus.

First I thought that since it’s an election year and the person who wins the election gets it, it’ll be Biden.

Then I thought Anthony Fauci, as the face of the pandemic response, or essential workers as its arms and legs, should be the one to get it.

Next, I figured naming journalists PoY (I’m the one who voted for them) would be appropriate because it would just piss Trump the fuck off and that’s always fun.

But I finally made my real choice: the Russian FSB intelligence service, who have been America’s real president since January 20, 2017. Might as well give credit where it’s due.

Especially hospital and eldercare workers

And those folks directing traffic at testing centers and the test staff.

Grocery clerks
Poll workers
Post office
Those lower level Gov't workers like DMV,
Delivery people truckers

A lot of regular people putting themselves out there in this pandemic. These are the "Rosie the riveter" folk of this time.

By that definition I'd say essential workers - BLM is up there but their influence hasn't necessarily been AS worldwide as essential workers.
