Under Trump’s reign, the place has been grim for the past four years, its only sign of life the patter of Fox & Friends. The Trumps never hosted concerts or poetry readings or invited artists to display their work. Melania took Jackie O.’s Rose Garden and stripped it of decades-old trees and color for seemingly no reason other than because she could. The holiday decorations have looked like something out of The Handmaid’s Tale.

By comparison, we used to see Barack Obama playing in the snow on the White House lawn with Sasha and Malia and their two Portuguese water dogs, Bo and Sunny. He famously promised his daughters a dog after the 2008 election and delivered on that promise. Can you imagine Donald Trump offering to get Barron a puppy? Or keeping a promise, for that matter? Not once in the past four years have we seen Donald and Melania warmly embrace after an event or trip; we haven’t seen smiling family vacations or loving moments shared on the dance floor. I miss those moments of humanity on display for all of America to see.

There’s so much work to be done in the months and years ahead, hard work that cannot be overlooked in the face of Biden’s victory. But I’m so excited to see Champ and Major playing on the White House lawn and to know that, for the first time in a long time, there might be a bit of joy within the White House grounds.

When I was a little kid, I wanted an FDR "Fala" dog and begged my Republican parents nearly daily until I got one. Ever since, there has been a wee lassie or laddie in my life.

I adored Dubya's Scottie Barney because at a presser at the Bush "ranch," Barney could be seen in the background taking a dump while Bush spoke! Barney clearly spoke for me on my opinion of Dubya!

Dogs, cats, beloved pets of all nature...they make the WH a home. For the tRumps, it was a place to stage their empire -- love, warmth and truth had no place. Power was the ONLY thing.

Yes, when Covid19 safe, concerts, poetry readings, and very importantly -- restore Jackie Kennedy's Rose Garden!

Both are German Shepherds. Joe and Jill adopted Major as a rescue pup.

It will be so good to have happy paws padding around our House again.

I'm not sure if it's true or not but I heard that Trump has never in his whole life had a pet. I can understand if there is a medical reason like severe allergy or something, but the fact that Trump has never in his life connected with another species is telling as to the kind of person he is. To never be connected in your heart to a dog or cat and what that relationship brings is downright sad. I think Donald has never thought he could profit from that relationship. That eagle chained to his desk doesn't count.

Major started out as a rescue that Joe and Jill fostered. He was one of six puppies that had been exposed to toxins and needed to be fostered due to health problems. Their daughter Ashley told them about the puppies. Joe and Jill fostered Major and then adopted him.

Sunny and Bo, Bailey Warren, Truman and Buddy Buttegeig, Skye Hickenlooper (also a German Shepherd), Artemis and Rosie O'Rourke, and hopefully, a Harris=Emhof pooch or two.

I can't get enough of Bailey, so I hope he visits frequently.
