I don’t care if Repugs congratulates President Biden. Changes nothing.

I’ll lay a schwanzig right now that there will be more repugnant candidates in 2024 than there were democratic candidates in 2020.

in negotiations regarding legislation early and often, particularly if we don't win the two GA runoffs.

They may make the difference between two years of stagnation and passing meaningful legislation.

If there are any semi decent persons among the Republican Senators, I am all for trying to get them to our side.

negotiate with Republicans, period.

Personally, I find it ridiculous, but it's a pretty common theme around here.

I think all three could be amenable to compromise. Polls have long indicated that voters want some level of bipartisanship, though I'm not sure that holds in practice. Should we not win the GA runoffs, it's really the only way anything will get accomplished.

that most negotiations with republicons ended with them getting what they want, and we got a LOT less than we needed.

Examples - the weakening of Obamacare, remember all that "negotiating" in 2009? They get permanent tax cuts, we get temporary extensions of unemployment. We get a smaller stimulus, they get more permanent tax cuts.

That's why a lot of people feel that way.

I hope they will be able to deal and negotiate with republicons. But not if it means giving away the store and getting little or nothing in return.

"Compromise" to a Republican means "do it our way".
ETA, they are not good people, I'm sorry. Not one of them.

Make deals with them, but only as long as we get exactly what we need. Deals with republicons usually mean they get what they want and we get the shaft.

But let's keep in mind who's in the majority and represents the will of the people. Republicans have been fucking things up for the last four years with reckless abandon. Now some of them want to make nice when they absolutely failed to rein in any of the worst excesses by the Trump. Undoing some of that damage means that "negotiating" will entail putting things to right, not just dialing the cruelty back to 9 or 10. Reuniting 250 of the children orphaned by ICE isn't negotiable; all 500+ of those children need to be put back to their families, and a fresh start made on processing their asylum claims.

That's just one area that needs fixing without compromise. There are more.
