Dear Trump supporter,

Let’s make a deal. I will not accuse you of being evil as Satan or stupid as a bag of rocks if you show you are capable of learning from the experience of the past 4 years. President-Elect Biden is going out of his way to embrace you and offer you a pathway to humanity. I am not feeling so generous. Here’s what I am willing to do:

You cannot support Nazis.

You cannot support people who objectify or molest women.

You cannot support crazy people owning a veritable arsenal of military-grade weapons.

You cannot demand that government should dictate all reproductive decisions in the name of “pro life”.

You cannot support people who oppose science.

I could go on and on, but let’s just leave it there. I cannot meet you halfway if you insist on a position of ignorance or intolerance. If that’s the only way you can live, then we are going to have hard times ahead. I sincerely hope that you can learn something by what has transpired over the past 4 years and find a way to make the basic changes in your approach to living in a civilized society. You must change. I hope you do. I will welcome you, fully understanding that we probably won’t agree on everything. But nothing can happen until you commit to moving from the intractable positions you have locked yourself into. You must do that. I cannot do it for you and there is no “halfway” where we can meet.

I asked why & he said "COVID isn't real!"

How do you meet that half way?

6. The writer of this article is quite clueless.

These folks won't change. But I do believe they will slither away into hiding like before. Their kids will change. the future generations will change. But a big section of the old guard will not. They will hide their feelings while talking to you, but when they gather or think it"s safe to speak their mind they will.

What will happen is: it will diminish. It already is. But the old guard will always vote the way they do, they will not give up their gas guzzlers, they will deny science, they will not believe in a woman's right to their own body; they will not wear masks; and they believe many are beneath them. They only feel safety in numbers like themselves. Today is mourning day for them, a heartfelt sad day. Welcome to the world we lived for 4 years.

They will also roll up those Dump flags, just like I took down my huge Gore signs. With big, woeful sighs I did. The nation was devastated back then, and like now for the Dumpster people. But they will not change anymore than our forward agenda will not change.

But they will slither off, diminished in power.

7. This would be a good start

I have a couple things to add.

1. Do not legislate your religion and force people to follow, believe, or pay attention to whatever your interpretation of religion and morality is.

It is time for those who claim membership in the peace and justice community to remove the work “peace” from their identity. For now. Crazy uncle Charlie the Trumphumper doesn’t get to come to thanksgiving. The racist, sexist, homophobic, violent spewing of the past 4 years is neither forgiven nor forgotten. The nazis crawling off Facebook to Parler to create the new vision of The Daily Stormer/4Chan is not the same as getting a clue and shutting up. They are simply populating a terrorist venue where the next 9/11 is plotted. I suggest liberals copy them, however, to the extent that they burn their public radio membership cards and turn off NPR, that bastion of comforting whitewash and normalization, and engage in some harder truths in continuing this fight.

9. What is the compromise between fascism and democracy?

The Republican party wants to destroy our government. They have demonstrated this, over and over. How much compromising did they do when they had the House? the Senate? the Executive? The Republican party is an extremist party. It needs to be crushed in its current form and rebuilt from ashes.
