Biden team making plans to blow through any McConnell 'roadblocks': report

https://www.rawstory.com/2020/11/biden-team-making-plans-to-blow-through-any-mcconnell-roadblocks-report/

President-elect Joe Biden is already in the process of working with his transition team to overhaul executive orders placed during his predecessor’s time in office, according to The Washington Post. Among the immediately planned adjustments: setting up a coronavirus task force in recognition of the coronavirus global pandemic. The task force, which will be formed Monday, could begin meeting within days and will be co-chaired by former surgeon general Vivek H. Murthy and David Kessler, a former Food and Drug Administration commissioner.

Sen. Christopher A. Coons (D-DE), a longtime Biden ally who holds the seat Biden had for 36 years, offered a broad overview of Biden’s initial agenda: “Get us out of this pandemic that’s been made far worse by Trump’s bungled mishandling of it, rebuild our economy in a way that’s more sustainable and more inclusive, and deal with division and inequality.”

Biden has also vowed to institute new ethics guidelines at the White House beginning on his first day in office, effectively committing that no member of his administration will influence any Justice Department investigations.

If the Supreme Court kills it we just have to hope there is enough backlash that Joe can put his thumb on McConnell until we get something passed to replace it - and insist that Joe’s public option be included.

I know that the composition of the Court looks bad but I wonder if Roberts and maybe Gorsuch may be persuadable? Killing the ACA in the midst of a global pandemic seems like it would be utterly suicidal, both politically and judicially. I hope that Roberts tries to find some way to convince at least one other member of the Republican wing of the Court to figure out a way to let it stand. It really sucks that this argument- which even some Republicans feel is specious- has made it this far. I don't think that it is particularly fair that this challenge was pretty much only teed up as a result of the Republicans killing the individual mandate. At the very least, if we are able to win the Senate with the Georgia races in January, if the Court does kill the law, maybe we could use reconciliation to at least apply a fix to it that would make it "Constitutional" again? It was fine until the mandate was stripped, right?

As has been pointed out on several thread over the past few days, only certain officials can be named acting heads of cabinet posts: the "first assistant' to the departing department head (i.e. the deputy secretary) or someone who is currently serving elsewhere in the government in an executive branch office for which he/she was confirmed by the Senate, or for a limited time, certain career officials who have served in the same cabinet post and have a certain salary level.

The problem is that individuals meeting any of these conditions are going to be Trumpers. And if you check, you'll find that the acting cabinet secretaries named by Trump all conform to these requirements so there is no precedent for getting around them (and Biden's folks are smart enough to know all of this).

According to The Washington Post, Biden’s transition team has been given government-issued computers and iPhones for conducting secure communications, and 10,000 square feet of office space in the Herbert C. Hoover Building in Washington, although most of the work is being done virtually because of the coronavirus pandemic. His advisers have been granted temporary security clearances and undergone FBI background checks to fast-track the processing of personnel who can receive briefings on intelligence.

So at least the nation's 2nd president of color (the orange fuckwad) hasn't found a way to block these initial major transition steps.

but it won't be easy-- that man has accomplished more for the Republicans than any single man, even Trump. He managed to thwart Harry Reid and Obama, packing the federal judiciary and Supreme Court among other things.

Worse, is that I believe that Trump will try to impede Biden from the sidelines. That will scare away the few GOP Senators who might have compromised against Mitch's wishes.

We really need to win those two runoff races in GA, it will help immensely.

with a little hardball politics. I think and I hope Joe Biden is more of an LBJ type verses a Jack Kennedy. Charismatic folks are great, but what we need right now is some serious, old fashioned arm twisting. McConnell has weaknesses and vulnerabilities even if he still controls the Senate. Exploit them. I think Biden is just the man to do that.
