The number of conspiracy theory posts is getting ridiculous.
Let's review:
The Justice Department didn't indict Joe (or Hunter) Biden
Voting machines didn't steal the election for Trump.
US Marshalls didn't impound Ballot Boxes.
Bill Barr isn't arresting election clerks.
The Courts aren't overturning the election results.
State Legislatures aren't preparing to appoint new Electors.
Democratic Electors aren't being bribed or blackmailed.
Sometimes you just need to accept victory.

(25,471 posts)The stuff people have been coming up with is completely nuts.
Trump's going to nuke North Korea.
Trump is bribing or blackmailing more than three dozen Democratic electors.
He's organizing a military coup.
The SC is going to invalidate the entire election and hand Trump the presidency.
The election is decided and Biden is President-Elect. We should think about acting like it instead of looking like the Trump of the left.

(32,822 posts)I know, what part of "select Electors" don't you understand? I thought they were appointed by the Governor or some damn thing.
I'm reminded of the old Groucho Marx (?) story.
GM: Would you sleep with me for $1 million?
Woman: OOOO I'd do anything for $1 million!
GM: OK, how about $100?
Woman: Are you kidding? What do you think I am?
GM: I know what you are, we're negotiating the price.

There haven't been more than 10 since 1896 and that was only because one party ran multiple candidates.

In fact the evidence quite clearly says he is, and if he converts back to his original form, he will live in the White House walls for the next four years and eat the guests in the Lincoln Bedroom.

(13,979 posts)around here. I think its because Trump regularly shatters norms and guard rails so people, in their minds, have assigned Trump with more cunning and power than he really has.
Yes, it's exactly the reason a child throws a tantrum - to exert power. The parent either gives into it, thus giving the child the understanding it has more cunning and power than it has and thus surrenders the upper hand, or the parent ignores it and lets the fire die out. I suspect Trump's mother always gave in....

"Every state has allowed its voters to make the call in every election since the late 1800s. But in 2000, the Supreme Court held in Bush v. Gore that the states "can take back the power to appoint electors."
According to a Sept. 23 article in The Atlantic, campaign advisers to Trump, in conjunction with Republican state leaders, are preparing to test this theory. Sources in the Republican Party, at both state and national levels, say that the campaign is considering a plan to "bypass" the popular vote results and install its own electors in key battleground states where the legislatures are controlled by Republicans."
Snip-
"After the national election, the plan goes, the Trump campaign would cry foul about rampant fraud and demand that state legislators ignore the ballot tabulations and choose their electors directly. If the campaign can sustain doubt or confusion about the ballot count, legislators will feel more and more pressure to take up the responsibility before the Dec. 8 deadline when electors' names are sent to Congress for verification.
The Atlantic reported that a Trump campaign legal adviser said this effort would be framed as protecting the will of the people."

The Atlantic article was always fantasy. It's even more of a fantasy now that Trump would likely need to switch more than three dozen electors. There haven't been more than 10 since 1896 and that was only because one party ran multiple candidates.

(25,471 posts)Unless one buys in to the "he's bribing or blackmailing" bullshit that's floating around, it's simply not going to happen.
I have no idea why so many people buy into this garbage.

(2,626 posts)It's about eroding confidence in the election and the voting process to the point where Republican state legislatures, at the behest of their constituents, will then disregard the ballots cast and simply appoint new electors who would then cast their vote for Trump.
It sounds far fetched and impossible, I have no idea whether it's legal. But if anyone had told me in 2016 that our country would be in the condition it's now in or that the topic we're now discussing would ever come up just a few years later I would have laughed.
Apparently the Trump campaign is now planning more rallies not for re-election but to increase distrust of the voting process and the results of this election.

And yet you insist on trafficking it around -- on an OP that is aimed at putting to bed nutso fringe element theories.
Even the Republican establishment is staring to fall in with "orderly transition of power." Why is it too much to ask that we do the same? Enough with the paranoia!

(15,512 posts)Biden made it, apparently, but we weren't so fortunate in 2016, and won't be in 2022. The sad fact is that we can NEVER rest if we want to keep from going the way of Trump Plaza. And if we had properly addressed some of these problems 50 years ago we wouldn't be in the pickle we're in now. As it stands, Biden has one helluva mess to clean up in two short years because that's all the time he'll get.
