Anyone surprised by this?
The deaths per capita are more heavily led by Dem Governors but much of that happened very early on when it wasn't known how effective masks would end up being, no physical distancing was going on, not much work from home or closed restaurants/bars/etc and PPE was being prioritized for "front line workers"
There's NO excuse for the massive rise we've seen over the last month or two in predominantly "red" states.

(724 posts)Because our Democratic governor has been blocked by our GOP legislature and supreme court at every turn.

(10,168 posts)I don't see how it could not be. Their overturning of everything Gov. Evers (D) does has literally killed people here. Not hyperbolic in the least.

She has also declared that local school districts can't make their own decisions, instead, they can request a waiver to move to online schooling for 14 days IF the county positive rate is over 15% AND 10% of students are absent for that 14 days. But, the state can take as long as it chooses to grant or decline the waiver, so I doubt any school will receive one.
Of course, online school is problematic in our town, where nearly 2/3 of students don't have an internet connection at their home.

(3,333 posts)Governor Evers wanted to keep everyone safe, but he's powerless with a Republican dominated gerrymandered legislature and tea bag supreme court.
Illinois is surrounded by states with Republican rule: Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, and Iowa. It's much harder to get our numbers down.

and the thugs in the state house. jb passed what looked like a law, requiring employees to wear masks at work. turns out it was just an advisory. some undefined 'groups' can report businesses and get them fined. but you cant call the cops and get someone ticketed.

(17,377 posts)Around here, many bars/restaurants seem to be ignoring the most recent shutdown order, and local police seem reluctant to do anything about it.
