Just like COVID elevated a lot of leaders around the globe when they treated COVID with any sense of seriousness.

I still believe Trump would have won in landslide if he shut up in March and let the experts took over. Trump would have gotten all of the credit even though he could have done nothing.

many didn't call him out for putting the NYC emergency communications center in a building that had already been the target of a terrorist bombing.

I'm still not sure why 9/11 elevated him.

Don't forget, half of the US doesn't vote or care about politics. They don't know the ins and outs of every issue people run on. Their impression simply is formed from those photo ops.

He made his bones by walking through the streets of Lower Manhattan after the attacks as if he was "in charge" of the situation.
The media, ever compliant, ran with the image of a tough guy out for revenge - it was all the rage back then.
His term was almost up and many NYers were tired of his BS - until then.

Since then, he has obviously deteriorated mentally. He's simply a demented shell of himself at this point, but the media still adores him.

In the beginning I thought he got control of the squeegee folks (there were instances of drivers being intimidated). Some control needed to happen.

But then it started to go off the rails and NYers began to push back. His rep was falling right before 9-11.

And he saw himself as a ladies' man. That's right, the not what one would call an attractive man, Rudy Giuliani openly flaunted the affair he was having with Judith Nathan by parading down Fifth Ave. with her while his wife, Donna Hanover, was still living with their kids in Gracie Mansion, the NYC mayoral residence.

He also appointed his former police bodyguard/driver, Bernard Kerik, NYC Police Commissioner. Kerik was of such sterling character that he later went to prison for tax crimes and lying to Congress. He also was a womanizer.

Rudy has gotten progressively worst since all of that in the '90s. His drinking has too, which probably has much to do with it. IMO he's about crazy as trump. I mean who would pay so little attention to detail in organizing a press conference to explain the president's position on contesting the election that it ended up in a shabby industrial district parking lot instead of the luxury Four Seasons Hotel.

And then to go through with it instead of postponing it until a better venue was arranged.

Just nutso.

Who I wouldn't consider to be "that nuts" who totally and completely lost their minds over a dark-skin Democrat being POTUS for eight years. The same affected Rudy as well I believe.
