They have gotten away with almost every attempt to turn this country into a biblical state, for POWER. Their actions show they don't give a damn about the actual teachings of Christ.

They, rightly, take offense at the Islamic State (purposely confusing it with the Islamic religion), while trying their best to turn THIS country into an American equivalent.

They use the bible and the flag to wrap themselves, while destroying this country's foundations.

And nothing is done.

Sadly, (if we do nothing) I think this may be our last dance, last chance, for love... (SING it Donna). The lights come on in a few minutes, and we get to see the reality that has been covered up by all the diversions, that will take decades and generations to undo. We get to see what he, and they (GOP), have wrought.

That is IF we do nothing.

Biden needs to explain all his actions, and why (he has plenty of proof), but be willing to do what HAS to be done. He will MEAN it when he says "this hurts me a lot more than it hurts you", as he administers some SERIOUS punishment.

And the republicans can just "get over it".

I believe that as long as bills are brought to the senate floor, we will have at least two gop senators voting with us - murkowski and collins. This would give us the needed 50 (if GA runoffs don’t play out). The problem is mcconnel is unlikely to bring any bills to the floor. Now that he won reelection and doesn’t have to face voters for 6 years, he has no incentive to anything at all. Not like he ever cares about his constituents. He only cares about large donors.

Mon Nov 9, 2020, 01:24 PM
Nov 2020
The decision as to who becomes president rests with those who operate under the Big White Dome on Capitol Hill.

The following explains what happens in Congress over the next few months as it goes about certifying the next president.

The Constitution makes Congress the ultimate arbiter determining which candidate wins each state. Congress must approve certificates of election from all 50 states. You may have thought November 3rd was the most important date on the election calendar. But a more crucial date is December 14, dictated by an obscure, Byzantine, 1887 law: The Electoral Count Act.

snip

Presuming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is re-elected to her leadership role, she and Vice President Mike Pence, in his capacity as President of the Senate, would co-preside over the joint session. Pence’s term doesn’t expire until January 20. And, the 12th Amendment to the Constitution mandates that “the President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall be counted.”

The 12th Amendment also says “the person having the greatest number of votes for President shall be President.” But Congress must agree to all of this. And remember, Pence is the one running the show at this stage.

Do not underestimate the role of the vice president at this critical stage.

Since McConnell is involved here, you know they will try this. At least Pence is presiding, but I'm sure McConnell is pulling the strings!

Their central identity — white supremacy, xenophobia, sexism, militant dominionist Christian theology, nationalism, privatization, unbridled deregulation, abandonment of healthcare and education, firearms saturation, an uber-wealthy ruling class— has reached a point so extreme that it cannot function in a democratic republic.

The majority of Americans are opposed to this far-right agenda, so it can only be applied via force by a minority. They had four years of Trump, and they used that time to reshape the courts and send wealth upstream. It was a holiday for them.

But now that holiday is drawing to a close, and they are mad as all hell, for only within a fascist oligarchy can their toxic ideals flourish. They can dress it up with flags and bibles, and call it “liberty,” but it’s fascism regardless.

There may actually be something more sinister and seditious afoot. And we must be constantly vigilant during this transitional period. As Mayor Pete said, defeating Trump may be a lot easier than defeating Trumpism. Just think - the corrupt, power hungry Republicans just came to within a hair's breadth of a fascist takeover of our country. It would probably be extremely naive to assume that they would not now try to resort to extra-electoral means to facilitate that takeover.

Make no mistake: The attempt to harness Trumpism—without Trump, but with calculated, refined, and smarter political talent—is coming. And it won’t be easy to make the next Trumpist a one-term president.

At the moment, the Democratic Party risks celebrating Trump’s loss and moving on—an acute danger, especially because many of its constituencies, the ones that drove Trump’s loss, are understandably tired. A political nap for a few years probably looks appealing to many who opposed Trump, but the real message of this election is not that Trump lost and Democrats triumphed. It’s that a weak and untalented politician lost, while the rest of his party has completely entrenched its power over every other branch of government: the perfect setup for a talented right-wing populist to sweep into office in 2024. And make no mistake: They’re all thinking about it.

If they congratulate Biden, they risk pissing off Trump's base. They would be primaried, and quite possibly lose, if they did that.

But acting in a way that mollifies Trump's base makes them look childish, which could be used against them in a general election.

This was far more in evidence in 2018 than this year, when some of the more rabid Trump supporters got the heave-ho, but I do think it's having an impact. Some Republican candidates went to great lengths this year to pretend they were independent of Trump, or even critical of him.

I have no idea what things will look like in 2022 - but neither do they, and they're trying to keep their cards wet. Or their powder close to the chest. Or whatever confused metaphor seems to work for this otherwise horrid year.

...and anyone who believes Mitch McConnell is going to be any more cooperative and conciliatory with Biden than he was with Obama is delusional. Moscow Mitch is as much of an authoritarian as Trump and much more effective. In McConnell's view, only Republicans get to choose judges, decide if a Cabinet member is sufficiently "moderate", and put aside any bill from the House that doesn't cater to his anti-Democracy whims. Without a Senate to support him, Biden will be hobbled, and the country knows this, so the Senate results, for me, have the stink of incredulity. How these guys are consistently able to legitimately hit their electoral inside straights in the face of circumstances and public opinion strains plausibility. These Senators are more afraid of McConnell than they are of Trump.

They have sold their souls and are no longer able to feel love anymore.
They are completely self-serving.

Because trump the goon is a mafioso, I believe that greed and thirst for power has made some of these corrupt republicans do things they are now afraid of coming to light, and although they have to have no sense of consequence, they do now know who the con is and they know he will expose them without a second thought.

I feel we are going to learn so much when these goons leave the white house.

My only fear is thinking about how much information will trump give Putin about the USA? This traitor is capable of anything, and from now to January 20th we should expect the worst.

So do they. Some of them are outright terrified of what the future holds for them.

I think the phrase "Republican Senators" pretty much covers it.

Seriously, though...i might be a bit of a rush to judgement, but are they STILL afraid of the Wrath of Con? I always assumed that was cowing a lot of them into silence or even acquiescence, but now that has to be fading, doesn't it?

Perhaps they were always like this, and learned how to behave in public, or they might have become this and haven't found the way back...and may never, which is the worst.

Brad Raffensperger told Perdue and Loeffler that he would NOT RESIGN because the Senators thought that counting the votes was a highly irregular thing to do when it might cost tRump the election.

SO SOME Republicans have a bit of class.

This is not hyperbole.

This is truth.

Stop treating them like they are just reasonable people with a "difference of opinion".

That's NOT what's going on here.

And it never has been.
