Blowback against Trump campaign law firm targets clients, recruiting

By Caroline Spiezio
4 MIN READ

(Reuters) - Jones Day, the go-to law firm for U.S. President Donald Trump’s election campaign, is under fire for representing Republicans in a lawsuit over Pennsylvania’s extended deadline to receive mail-in ballots, with law students threatening to boycott the firm and a prominent anti-Trump group targeting it online.

The firm defended its representation in a statement on Tuesday, saying the case raises important constitutional questions, pushing back on critic’s claims that its main goal is to sow distrust in the results of the election. A request by Republicans for the Supreme Court to hear the case is pending.

But Jones Day distanced itself from legal challenges filed by Republicans after Democrat Joe Biden captured the presidency on Saturday, saying it is not “representing any entity in any litigation challenging or contesting the results of the 2020 general election.”

Despite its statement, Jones Day has faced criticism, which some attorneys have spoken out against, arguing that a tenet of law firm business and the U.S. legal system is that even controversial clients deserve counsel.

Counsel in this case should be, "You lost, get over it," not filing lawsuits. There is no right to or tenet of always filing lawsuits. That's not a legal principle.

3. But it's a super-important constitutional question whether the PO can fuck off with your ballots.

How in the world will future administrations fuck with mail balloting if they can't get the post office to fuck it up for them?

All this ass kissing of that orange goon deserves some pushback. Ridiculous that the whole world either fluffs or is expected to fluff the ego of a petulant man child throwing a temper tantrum. He doesn't need lawyers. He needs a Pampers change and a bottle.

Me.

Listening to the arguments/briefs being placed before judges I keep asking if this is the level of lawyering from a white shoe concern and if it is, you might be better off with legal aid

7. "even controversial clients deserve counsel." "raises important constitutional questions"

Fine, but this "client" is more of the Ghooliani class.

No law firm is compelled to represent anyone who asks for it. This outfit is just in it for the money. If Jones Day really thinks this "raises important constitutional questions," their legitimate clients should really question the qualifications of their attorneys.

automatically gets labeled 'Cancel Culture'. GM and Verizon are both rumored to be in the initial talks phase of dropping Jones Day (both of which currently use the firm).

The obvious and consistent tell of these dull-witted snowflakes is their ideological hypocrisy.
