(5,546 posts)The idiotic skew in the Electoral College would essentially go away. Not completely but it would normalize towards the popular vote to make it almost impossible to get the kind of upside down results we have had recently.
Hassin Bin Sober
(26,350 posts)Wouldnt that incentivize gerrymandering? Which repigs seem to be better at. Also dont we still get screwed with population concentration?
Im genuinely curious. I dont know.
genxlib
(5,546 posts)Then yes, gerrymandering would still be an issue. I was talking about a straight breakdown of the EVs by the proportion of the popular vote in the state
The skew would go way down
treestar
(82,383 posts)to change the number of EVs per state to just be their number of house representatives and subtract the two for the Senate. Then it would at least be proportional to population. Wyoming would only get 1 and CA would get 53 so citizens' votes in the two states would be of equal weight per electoral vote.
There's another idea I read today: or add 50 EVs that just go to the PV winner.
drmeow
(5,032 posts)increase the electors to 1000, distributed by population - no amendment needed. Also, increase the size of the house of representatives.

North and South Dakota and Oklahoma....
Native Americans have been screwed for too long...
Native Americans delivered Arizona. It's time to recognize that....and get on with actually representing America.

Biden won 3 and trump won 1
Nebraska has 5 electoral votes
1 for each of its 3 congressional district and 2 for the popular vote winners
Biden won 1 and trump won 4
I know it doesn't change the results, but this is a national news network and they should know better.

But we have work to do as the country has problems. We had to do all this work to beat Fat Hitler, and his MAGA zombies still believe.
The pandemic will slow us down severely, the economy is subpar, Congress is gridlocked, and we're stuck with the EC, no DC PR and a cavalry.
We have about 18 months to build a case for 2022. Tell me how we claw forward from this beachhead.

Every Democratic state office holder came, and we had 300 people who bought tickets. And this was in McDonald County, in the SW corner of the state.
