(18,402 posts)Sorry: he sounds right and looks right, but his antics are pure Jim Carrey, and have so very little to do with Biden. Indeed, I think future cold opens should avoid politics except only where necessary. They are not in general very funny. There are so many things in the world and in life to lampoon ... broaden your horizons, SNL writers.

Biden certainly isn't hyperactive like Carrey.

(67,782 posts)Keenan Thompson is the best, they'd better not lose him.
Weekend Update is horrible and a shadow what it was a few years ago.
Kate McKinnon's characters all seem the same - her depiction of Rudy Giuliani, Jeff Sessions, and Ruth Bader Ginzburg are all bizarrely similar, and EVERY character of hers has a tinge of a southern accent. Not funny at all.
Jim Carrey is okay, but he really overacts too much.

(90,761 posts)And at first, it actually took me a moment to realize that Jim Carrey was playing Biden. Didn't look a bit like him. Even with the makeup et al.

(7,449 posts)Not a Jim Carrey fan. He's always Jim Carrey, no matter what he does. He does a pretty awful impression of Joe, IMO.

(1,385 posts)They really need to find someone else that is less wacky and manic.

(5,011 posts)Is too far off.
He is making Joe appear really demented, and that just isnt the case.

(1,789 posts)Regular life, as regular as can be managed during the pandemic, will be less political by default with Trump out of the picture. Hopefully, the writers will notice and move on. Steven Colbert and Seth Meyers will need to branch out too, and are probably happy to do so.

(15,119 posts)I like Jim Carey, but not as Joe Biden.

(12,012 posts)No matter who he plays or what he does, he's still always Jim Carrey. His portrayals are tedious.
His female equivalent is Jennifer Aniston. No matter what the role, she's always just Jennifer Aniston.

His timing was great in this skit (not playing Trump):

Brother Buzz
(40,400 posts)he would be a force to be reckoned with.
Until then, central casting could find dozens of actors that could do a better job.
That being said, I believe Carrey's role in 'Man on the Moon' took it's toll on his psyche and mental health, and he may be a little reluctant to invest the energy to do it again.

(1,648 posts)When Carrey playing Biden was asked a question, Baldwin loudly started spewing lies like loud mouth tRUMP, until the moderator spoke... Prompting Baldwin to frown like tRUMP and loudly say,
'See he didn't even answer the question.'
That was fucking priceless!!!!!

(12,245 posts)For a show that, at times, staggered along and often wasn't very funny, it still manages to park one in the bleachers from time to time.
