The former vice president failed to produce the massive big-city margins some Democrats expected. One reason is that Trump surpassed his own 2016 performance in many cities.

PHILADELPHIA Democrats were counting on massive big-city margins this year, hoping to avoid a repeat of four years ago when unexpectedly low voter turnout in several key cities helped Donald Trump win the presidency.
But it was suburbia not large cities that delivered the over-the-top margins that put Joe Biden in the White House. And in at least a handful of cities in key battleground states this month, Trump actually ran slightly better than in 2016.
Trump improved on his performance in urban areas in part because he did better in mostly white, working-class precincts where he ran strongly four years ago. And in some places, Trump also picked up slightly more votes in neighborhoods with large Latino populations and, to a lesser degree, majority-Black communities.
The results arent enough to signal a GOP resurgence in urban America Biden won overwhelmingly in most big cities. But when paired with Trump expectation-defying performance in predominantly Latino areas in south Texas and Florida, its a warning sign for the Democratic Party in the years ahead.

(5,969 posts)I think the headline is misleading. The main focus of the article is about some aspects where Dems did better than in 2016 and some where they could do/have to do better in the future. It's not really targeted against Biden.
I usually dislike these negative and possibly misleading sounding articles but there are some interesting points that one might take into consideration, for instance the targeting of specific groups. Small changes regarding the turnout of your voters can decide the election. Biden won big in Detroit, for example, but the voter turnout was only 50%. He could have netted another 100k votes just there (assuming a high 70s turnout with mail-in voting).
The article also mentions several times that things like the defund the police nonsense didn't help which many here would agree with.

Isn't it a little unfair and a little early to issue such a claim that cities are still waiting on Mr. Biden to deliver something as well as make a overly broad analysis that the Democratic Party missed critical warning signs of something ?

(25,320 posts)The party has to find a way to not wait until the ninth hour to just start throwing resources, she said. The first day I was able to send a group of people out was so stressful but it was Tuesday morning. The election day! What sense does that make? So if you could do it in the ninth hour for $300 a day, $30 an hour, you can do it for half that, a couple of months in advance.

How far they push it remains to be seen, depends IMHO on how much pushback they get from all of us, and whether courts/military go along with it. So far so good and Im optimistic and relieved about that.... but.... sorry I for one am NOT going to completely relax until election is CERTIFIED and Mr. Biden sworn in.
IMHO its way too premature to set aside the unity within Dems/progressives and go back to business as usual WE ARE NOT QUITE THERE YET.

... it's delusional and the only motivation driving this crap is a desire to damage, divide and weaken. Whenever you see "Holly Gotta Whine" as the writer, the chances are very high that it's going to be another divisive "hit-piece" on Democrats, or the Democratic party. It's a pathetic and delusional individual who would use the platform to continually nit-pick, denigrate and belittle with their petty grievances.
The war is over, Holly. Come out of the jungle.

(146,308 posts)he won his election. It went on throughout his two terms, too.
We have three political parties in the United States: The Republican Party, The Democratic Party, and The Disgruntled Party. The last one can't possibly win, but it can detract from the other two - and does on a consistent basis.
The author of this article is a member of that Disgruntled Party. Clearly.
Fortunately for all of us, Joe Biden was able to overcome the Disgruntled Party and win. Hillary Clinton didn't quite succeed, thanks to that third party.
