WASHINGTON Donald Trump may not be president much longer, but he still wants to run the Republican Party for the foreseeable future.
If he can.
From setting up a political action committee to suggesting he might run again in 2024, Trump is already working to keep his hold on the GOP after his term ends but he also faces formidable obstacles in his future drive to stay relevant, according to advisers and other members of the Republican Party.
"He'll be the head of the party, no matter what happens," said one Trump aide, who like others spoke on condition of anonymity because the president still believes he will prevail in his election lawsuits.

He'll run it straight into the ground.

Oh, it also seems that at least some of the RWNJs expect him to build a media empire.

(1,351 posts)Multiple civil and criminal investigations. Mary Trump stated she is sure he wont run in 2024. She stated several reasons, the two main reasons being: 1) he wont want to risk losing again, and 2) his health, both mental and physical. She says he will continue to degrade both in physical and mental health due to his terrible physical and untreated mental illness.
I liked that last part, untreated mental illness because it speaks the simple truth.

(13,180 posts)It will be interesting to see how the media market plays out. Fox News never had any serious competition before. Trump could literally give Murdoch a run for his money. Murdoch may have to destroy Trump or give him a show.
I don't know how much energy Trump has left. Like the Presidency, a media presence might be used to keep Trump out of jail for a while. He'll claim the prosecutors are trying to shut him up. But that $400 million he owes is going to have to come from somewhere. And I don't know that his real estate holdings are going to do well under the management and name of a worldwide pariah.
The GOP will still kowtow to Trump and let their other dogs continue to bark at the "radical liberal left," unless Biden succeeds in peeling off ten or so points by getting the country cooperative and prosperous. I'm optimistic he can do that.

(35,328 posts)with them, they aren't even wanted at the party convention. I think eventually most of his supporters are going to
come to the realization that Trump lost the election when no evidence of cheating is produced. Also every legal
charge against him has to be pursued, he has to be exposed as the con man he is. I don't see him helping to win
the Senate races in Georgia, he doesn't care about anyone else.

However, I also believe the Republican donor class is done with Trump. If his hold on the party is to be broken, it will ultimately be because the donor class uses the power of their money to slowly erode Trump's influence, and allow the career politicians to safely ignore him.

(16,096 posts)is that Trump starts a Trump/Q-anon party and runs a whole lot of candidates under his banner.
He's got the slavish devotion of a large enough segment of the right to make it disruptive.
So, in districts all over the country, you have a Trumpist, a Republican, and a Democrat on the ballot.
Frankly, I'd enjoy watching them tear each other apart.
