I am in SW Missouri. Very red. I live in Springfield, a moderately-sized city. We have a masking ordinance. Many of the outlying areas do not. One of the hospitals has over 100 patients in with COVID. Guess what? Most of the people in the hospital with COVID come from the surrounding areas with no masking ordinances! an epidemiologist gave an analogy that if you are in a grocery store in aisle 2 and someone in aisle 3 farts, if you enter aisle 3 and can smell it it is the equivalent to walking into someone breathing Covid unmasked. It lingers. The reality has nothing to do with GI gas.

I'm serious. I have been on my feet all day, I do home care. My job is to make sure my clients are safe and cared for. I don't want to screw up. The guy today came into my client's house without a mask, I immediately grabbed my mask, and that's how this conversation started. If gas could not enter your mask you would suffocate. The fact that you have not died from wearing one confirms that oxygen gets through the mask, as it should by design. No need for a fart to confirm the methane gas from a fart will also get through.
