General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsLindsey Graham is in some serious shit I believe.
First of all he should not have been calling the Georgia Sec of state at all about an ongoing election. It may not be illegal but it is for sure unethical. And secondly it is now his word against that of another Republican who has no reason to lie.

(38,958 posts)but I expect nothing to happen to Leningrad Lindsey.
He won re-election. Rs control the Senate (for now). It's a he said he said situation without recorded proof.
He'll slip by. If anything, it will teach him to be more careful/deceitful in his conversations. Graham probably thought a discussion with another R would never make it to light.
I got to tell you, I'm gaining repsect for this GA SOS. Some. Not much.

(3,406 posts)And we need to put our positive minds in place and believe that "something WILL happen to Graham", that he will get investigated and kicked out of the Senate.
It is discouraging to hear/read that "nothing will happen to a republican" after they commit a crime so shamelessly for everyone to see.

(3,213 posts)The FBI/DoJ won't investigate right now, and he may not even get any attention next year when a new DoJ is in place.
Graham should be forced to resign from the Senate and be arrested.

(32,017 posts)From what I can tell, Lindsey called up Raffensperger and asked, Hey? What are the rules in Georgia regarding throwing out ballots when the signatures dont match? Is there any chance that the outcome might change as a result of this rule?
Ultimately, its none of Lindseys business, but asking a question like that probably isnt illegal. Now, if Raffensperger has evidence of pressure or undue influence, its a different story, but that would be very difficult to prove, I suspect.

Why would he expect the outcome to change?
Laelth
(32,017 posts)Its probably a question of allocation of resources.
Should I make a stink about this, or not? If it wont change the outcome, either way, I wont fight about it. If it could change the outcome, I MIGHT get involved. From one Republican to another, what should I do?
Thats what I imagine was going through Lindseys head, but who knows? Raffensperger decided to call out Lindsey, regardless, and good for him.

haele
(12,682 posts)He doesn't want any of Biden's nominations to go through. He especially needs to keep his position on the Judiciary committee.
Too many buried bodies over the past four years. He can't skate by on pushing the "normal piss-ant corruption" under the rug, Putin, the Amerikkkan Oligarchs, and Drumph got some serious filth on the GOP to get their political wrecking ball in place; I think they were seriously believing they were going to be able to tear up the Constitution, tear down the nation, and re-make the USA in their own short-sighted image.
Now he's caught. And he's smart enough to know this is the end; he's scuttling around trying to save his hide any way he can.

FBaggins
(26,773 posts)It sounds like he's speculating that there are some mail-in/absentee ballots where the signatures don't match. If an audit were to discover that the question would become whether they could be removed from the total.
The likely answer is "no" since the system is designed to keep ballots anonymous. Once the ballot is removed from the envelope and added to the count, there's no way to find it again if it turns out that the inner envelope should never have been opened.

(42,862 posts)I'm sure this pales in comparison to whatever it is he's trying to hide. His actions can only be explained as being motivated by something that he wants to keep secret. Someone has something on him and is coercing him to do and say things that he probably wouldn't otherwise be doing or saying. There's speculation that whatever it is he's hiding goes far beyond the universally accepted truth about his hypocrisy. People are saying that whatever others have on him is photographic evidence of something that could land him in jail. Now I don't know if this is true or not, it probably isn't. But if it is, it would certainly go a long way toward explaining his bizarre behavior.
Calista241
(5,586 posts)He says the question was along the lines of "Can you exclude ballots from districts that have a higher percentage of mis-matched signatures?"
This was in the midst of Ga's SOS talking about the signature matching process, and what standards they were using to match signatures before the ballot was even opened.

But a suspected felony is a suspected felony. On November 16, 2020 and after January 20, 2021.
I know that Joe is being quite temperate in his comments on future investigations into Trump and his corrupt regime. Because Obama chose to "look ahead," we had trump. When there's no price to pay for corruption, well, you run the risk of getting corrupt people in office.
As for the issue of trump having leverage over graham and others, I do think that's the case but I find it remarkable that nothing substantive has leaked.
