2. My take is that he's going about this by the book

Which is standard for this kind of operation and how poll volunteers carrying themselves.

He’s under attack from the national level glory seekers but he’s doing what they are basically demanding - he’s counting the votes.

6. Notice how shocked and curious we are when a Republican officeholder fulfills the obligations

of his office without any shenanigans. We wonder, "What's going on with him? How could this be?"

What should be the norm has become an anomaly where Republicans are concerned.

11. I would dearly like to think that the future would reward good Republicans.... sigh....

Not "reward them" to the point that the conservatives take over government, but reward them to the point that we once again (how long has it been???) have a civil two party system.

10. I think the threats and interference by other republicans were enough for him

Doug Collins, in particular was nasty, and he had enough. The only way to put a stop to this nonsense is shine the light on it and that is what he did.

12. Most people, of both parties, take the operation of the election seriously.

The Republicans try to make it harder to vote (limiting hours, mandating voter ID, etc.), but I have yet to meet a Republican election official (from pollworker through SOS) who views the vote casting & counting process in a biased manner. The integrity of the counting process is matter of personal and professional pride for everyone I've met.

So what he is doing, largely, is defending the integrity of his work. The attack is coming from a different side than he is used to - but it is his integrity, and the integrity of the voting process, that is being attacked.

13. He's another asshole Republican.

He's just a different flavor of asshole than many of the others involved. What we're seeing here is, in large part, party infighting. It's a bag of rats going after each other, and Raffensperger is just covering his own ass. The GOP gets portrayed as being "lockstep," which is only true until they start stepping on each other. Raffensperger is getting stepped on, and he's not tolerating it. He's smart enough to understand that the whole world is watching, and he's not interested in spending time in prison, if and when the corruption gets exposed. If he thought he could get away with what Graham requested, he would do it in a heartbeat.

And, no. He will not turn Democrat.

It’s exactly what I was going to post. Personally, I am enjoying it. If trump had won, these same guys would be patting each other on the back.
