Is he just a guy doing his job? Trying to do it well? If he's angling for publicity, which crowd is he targeting??? Will he turn Democrat??

(32,081 posts)He just doesn't want to be the fall guy. He's as scummy as the rest of them.

Hes under attack from the national level glory seekers but hes doing what they are basically demanding - hes counting the votes.

What should be the norm has become an anomaly where Republicans are concerned.

(13,783 posts)Not "reward them" to the point that the conservatives take over government, but reward them to the point that we once again (how long has it been???) have a civil two party system.

(34,069 posts)The Republicans try to make it harder to vote (limiting hours, mandating voter ID, etc.), but I have yet to meet a Republican election official (from pollworker through SOS) who views the vote casting & counting process in a biased manner. The integrity of the counting process is matter of personal and professional pride for everyone I've met.
So what he is doing, largely, is defending the integrity of his work. The attack is coming from a different side than he is used to - but it is his integrity, and the integrity of the voting process, that is being attacked.

(32,081 posts)He's just a different flavor of asshole than many of the others involved. What we're seeing here is, in large part, party infighting. It's a bag of rats going after each other, and Raffensperger is just covering his own ass. The GOP gets portrayed as being "lockstep," which is only true until they start stepping on each other. Raffensperger is getting stepped on, and he's not tolerating it. He's smart enough to understand that the whole world is watching, and he's not interested in spending time in prison, if and when the corruption gets exposed. If he thought he could get away with what Graham requested, he would do it in a heartbeat.
And, no. He will not turn Democrat.
