(22,063 posts)We felt that way in 2016, but I don't recall any death threats made by Dems.
Dems seem to be cut from a different cloth.

(13,776 posts)Almost like there's something wrong with a sizeable chunk of the GOP.
I won't say all or most or even a sizeable minority. I think it's a small minority of the GOP who would actually be violent or aggressive (maybe most QAnoners, though). But they're the reason I would never put a bumper sticker on my car or a political sign in my yard. Whereas Republicans aren't scared of us at all because they don't need to be. We simply aren't violent, unhinged assholes.

(7,263 posts)They are made up of the putrid spawn of the Southern Racists brought in by Nixon and the 'bigoted self righteous only care about the unborn' Evangelicals brought in by Raygun.
All seasoned by Newt and Rush's hateful philosophy's, and enabled by the fact Cheney, Rumsfeld and GWB were never prosecuted for War Crimes.
They make up a very large percentage of the party today.
We need to STOP making excuses for that Party and tell this truth to others AND Ourselves - the 21st Century Republicn Party is built on Greed, Bigotry and Hate.
It IS The Evil Empire.

(3,635 posts)They've been working to undermine democracy for a generation, and truly believe that only they should hold power.
This isn't just about a few bad apples, but about how their base thinks/views the world - which must be confronted head on if we are to ever grow as a country. We've coddled them for far too long.

(7,263 posts)my wife and have talked seriously about leaving this country in 2025.
Don't want to but we also don't want to waste our retirement years surrounded by Stupid Hateful Racist Asshats.
We have family and friends in Europe that would welcome us. Hope it never comes to that.

(81,238 posts)This is SHAMEFUL. And DISGRACEFUL. And INEXCUSABLE.
She's right. In the aftermath of an election - ANY election but certainly this one - the voters AND the election workers and volunteers all should be thanked and appreciated.
This is BEYOND fucked up.

(82,849 posts)See media talking heads? It's not that difficult. You know as well as Secretary of State Hobbs who is fomenting the mistrust and violence, but you don't call it out. There's always that mealy-mouthed "both sides" nonsense as if what a justifiably angry powerless person on the street has to say is equivalent to the president and other high government officials are relentlessly polluting the civil discourse with. AND she called out the complicit silence of other Republicans. It's usually very hazardous to get between a Republican officeholder and a camera, but when they should fucking well have something to say, they're late for lunch. Or heading to a meeting. Or out of the office. And the media just let it go: We tried to ask Senator Graham about this, but our lone phone call five minutes ago wasn't returned, and we can't send someone to camp out outside his office because that would be rude.
