President Trump has reportedly abandoned hopes of disqualifying enough mail-in votes to overturn the result of the election and is instead attempting to delay final vote counts for long enough to throw Biden's victory into doubt, according to a report.
The Washington Post reported that the Trump team is now pinning its hopes on a bid to delay vote certification in key battleground states such as Pennsylvania.
Rudy Giuliani, the lawyer leading Trump's team, reportedly told two Republican officials who spoke to The Washington Post anonymously that his plan is to delay the vote counts for long enough that Trump's campaign can pressure Republican lawmakers to handpick the electors on the electoral college when it meets to submit votes for the next president in December, and disrupt the process in Trump's favour.

The president's latest efforts appear almost certain to fail, The Washington Post reported, because elected officials in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin two battleground states where the Trump campaign would likely focus its efforts do not select electors, and other states have not indicated they would agree to any such political pressure.

(45,001 posts)He just looks like the world's whiniest bad loser. Not to mention, foolish and corrupt. It's the epitaph he's writing for himself. What an ugly ignoble way to go down. A failure all the way to the end.
They are still taking campaign donations...

(45,001 posts)Yes indeed. He's doing it for the dollars. And he desperately wants to stay out of jail.
He's down to his last few moves. Can't wait to hear the prison door slam shut on this awful chapter.

(34,857 posts)I actually lied - it would take 37+ electors to change. That's a massive amount.
If Biden had won 270 exactly, or even 271-280, I'd be a bit concerned. But no, I'm not concerned at that scenario.
The only scenario that concerns me, and even that is very unlikely, a few states refuse to certify, select their own electors for Trump, this goes to the Supreme Court, who rules it's perfectly constitutional for the legislature to do this, as they seem to default to what state legislative body says, and then it goes to the House.
But I don't think that will happen at all.

(11,518 posts)The House vote to break a Presidential election tie would be by state delegations, not individual members, and Democrats would lose that contest.
HOWEVER, it's not going to come to that.

(34,857 posts)They don't allow every member to cast a vote separately, as that would likely assure Biden a victory. Instead, they go by state delegation. Every state has just one vote. But it's the majority delegation for that state, as opposed to all congresspeople from that state.
So, take Pennsylvania. Their entire delegation is majority Republican. The assumption would be they'd vote Trump.
But again, that's not going to happen because states will certify the results.
Though if it did, I wonder what Nancy could do as she would oversee the vote.

(3,635 posts)as courts will step in at that point.
AFAIK all of the states in question have already passed laws stating that the electors are to be chosen by the party of the candidate who wins the state's popular vote. IOW, legislatures have already decided that the will of the people will determine the electors. The legislatures can only choose directly if the election should 'fail' and be unable to be certified, which again can only occur if there are serious problems (beyond the typical minor election issues), which a court would have to rule on.

(11,495 posts)trump is trying to get rid of any evidence of his corruption, and any paper trail that might lead to crimes his administration has committed. Of course trump is doing everything he can to leave Biden with a huge mess to mean up.
