https://www.instagram.com/p/CHvMWyvHvRP/washingtonpost As Dolly Parton tells it, her first-ever car accident in October 2013 was minor, but left her bruised and sore enough to seek medical advice at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Thats where she met Naji Abumrad, a physician and professor of surgery. Abumrad knew next to nothing about Parton, but he soon befriended her because he enjoyed their talks about current events and science. Their bond of nearly seven years received worldwide attention Tuesday after it was revealed that Partons $1 million donation to Vanderbilt for coronavirus research partially funded the biotechnology firm Modernas experimental coronavirus vaccine. In an interview with The Post, Abumrad recalled how Partons curiosity about Vanderbilts coronavirus research led to a gift that helped fund the vaccine that could be one of two available in the United States on a limited basis by the end of the year. Among the agencies and universities listed as funding sources for the Moderna vaccine was the Dolly Parton COVID-19 Research Fund." Her work made it possible to expedite the science behind the testing, Abumrad, 76, said on Tuesday night. Without a doubt in my mind, her funding made the research toward the vaccine go 10 times faster than it would be without it.

(42,766 posts)She does many things like this and not at all for the recognition.
In fact some of her gifts are never made public.

(20,998 posts)... over and over again, she has used her power, her privilege and her considerable fortune to aid those less fortunate.
Do yourself a favor, do a little research and really get the full Dolly story, and remember, much of the good she has done, she has specifically requested that her name not be attached. She helps people and does good works because she knows it's the right thing to do.
I stand in awe.

(14,922 posts)It was recorded in August or so because it takes time to complete and distribute prior to the holiday season, but she had the recording studio decorated for Christmas, with a tree full of lights and ornaments, and brightly wrapped presents for everyone under the tree. Lots of holiday goodies to eat, too. She wanted everyone to be in the holiday spirit and for that sense of warmth and cheer to carry over into the album.
