No legacy to speak of other than the worst job numbers in history, the worst economic numbers in history, the largest budget deficit in history, the largest trade deficit in history, and 263,534 Americans dead from what he claimed would go from 15 to zero case in a few days.

(2,037 posts)70+ million of our fellow American citizens think that was a fine job deserving of a four year extension.
Glad that 80+ million of us did not agree!

(45,002 posts)Trump did nothing except golf, tweet and make worthless executive proclamations. Aside from unqualified court appointments, his impact and legacy is a big fat zero.

Not with a bang but a whimper.

(25,471 posts)That will be his legacy, thanks to idiot McConnell. With the exception of the abysmal response to Covid, that will likely have the largest impact historically.

(5,790 posts)The administration revved democratic institutions past their redlines - to the point where they need a rebuild. He proposed what amounted to an authoritarian coup, and he got some members of his party to at least consider it. We should never have come that close in America, and we're not out of the woods. Honestly, I don't think they counted on Joe winning Arizona and Georgia. I think they figured they'd have to flip one state. In the end, they had too many holes to fill in the crumbling dam - they couldn't hold it back.
But the whataboutism is coming - "What about you Dems claiming Hillary only lost because of Russia?" "How is having states agree to pledge electors to the winner of the popular vote any different than having the state legislature award them to the majority party?" If/when the Feds go after Trump, the GOPers will be there to accuse him of using the DOJ to go after his political rivals - since Trump is ostensibly going to run in '24. They will reframe everything that just happened in a manner to make it seem normal and logical. That will be easy to sell to the infotainment-and-conspiracy-happy followers -- what Donald did was no different than Bush v. Gore, right? And in the end, I think most of the noise about mail-in ballots comes down to one thing and one thing only - they want voters to have to show ID because they know that disproportionately impacts poor, urban voters.
It looks like Biden will be sworn in, which is great. But we will be stuck with the results of this experiment for years to come.

(43,358 posts)He has 100 million plus radical white nationalists (counting family and non voting cells) that he will wield as a weapon for 4 years in an attempt to strangle the Biden presidency, turn 2022 into a Red Wave, and make a run in 2024. If he cannot himself run, he will play kingmaker for Junior, Ivanka or some other anointed vermin.
The minute Biden is sworn in, ALL major social media needs to permanently give him the banhammer. If not, the price to be paid will be steep and its effects immediately apparent.
