I'm just joking, sort of. I find that having something super-sweet in the morning will cause me to have a bad day.

I'm probably going to have what I have just about every morning: Oatmeal with cranberries and a spoonful of ground flax seed. No milk. Nothing else.

But that's a couple of hours from now. For now, just my coffee.

Fudge before protein in the morning would have me flying, and then I’d feel sick for hours.

Oatmeal with flax seed, chia seed, hemp seed, walnuts, and cranberries. There were just too many calories, even though they were "good" calories. This pandemic is not good for my waistline as it is.

I love black cherry yogurt too.

I just don't like tea.

So starting my day with ginger tea.

Tue Nov 24, 2020, 11:42 AM
Nov 2020

I used to be able to eat virtually anything and still feel good. Now there's a growing list of things I don't do anymore. Getting older sucks in that respect.

Honestly, though, now that I'm a so-called senior citizen (66), I wish I had started eating better when I was younger. Gone are the days when I can drink coffee all day long and have cake as a meal. Now I get my two cups in the morning, and another one mid-morning, and a tiny mug cake is all I allow myself.

I found a super easy mug cake recipe. You take a box of angel food cake mix and a box of regular cake mix, combined. And then you just take 3 tablespoons of the mix, 2 tablespoons of water and microwave for 1 minute. 3-2-1. I like to squirt in a little chocolate syrup before microwaving, and top with whipped topping. It's a yummy little treat. At least I think so. And super cheap.

Nov 2020

One trick I've been using is to eat my tiny little cake with a tiny little spoon. It takes longer, and makes me savor a little bit more.

I do the same thing with my plates. I don't use dinner plates. I use salad plates. It keeps me from putting so much on my plate the first time, and I'm kinda lazy, so it takes me long enough to get up and go get the second helping that sometimes I can actually talk myself out of it. Sometimes.

Honestly, I'm utterly failing at sticking to anything close to control when it comes to eating during this pandemic. I used to distract myself by getting out and going shopping or something, but I can't do that. So I'm stuck home. With food. I fail.

It's a dark bread from central Germany, rye-based and wheat-based (mixed). Probably with some brie on it, which I shouldn't. Then some fresh-pressed orange juice and some cinnamon-clove tea from the States sweetened with Turkish apricot marmalade.

traditional breakfast foods. I prefer more savory lunch or dinner type foods and a little later in the morning. Like a nice bowl of soup, or some good crusty bread w/ cheese and fruit/olives/peppers/condiments, etc., things like that.

Usually, like today, I just had a tall glass of rose iced tea. I stopped drinking coffee a few years ago because it bothered my stomach, so I'm more of a tea drinker now.

Sometimes I will have some toast or an English Muffin or some cheese melted over crusty bread in the toaster oven, but not much. I have also been really into fresh apple cider lately as well.

I love pierogi and sauerkraut! That sounds ideal!

45. Exactly my breakfast
Tue Nov 24, 2020, 01:01 PM
Nov 2020

I can't eat in the morning at all. Just black coffee (with a side of newspaper). Occasionally I'll have a half an English muffin or a small bowl of cereal 3 or 4 hours after rising, to tide me over until lunch if I'm feeling a little low–blood sugarish.

I think breakfast is overrated ... as something to eat in the early morning, that is. I love eggs, so once in a while we have what we like to call a "breakfast supper" with an omelet or souffle or other egg dish.

Oddly, I do eat breakfast when we travel (that long-ago activity). But that's because I've usually been up and showered and dressed for several hours before heading out.

A toasted piece of locally baked La Miche bread (if you are not familiar with La Miche and interested in a MOST amazing bread check out link below). Topped with organic creamy peanut butter and a slice of New Zealand Cheddar Cheese. I know, peanut butter and cheese, weird right? Actually, it is great and very sustaining, but it's got to be a single slice of bread. Two pieces of bread with cheese and peanut butter -- way too dry and strange and yucky. Also a gigantic cup of Irish breakfast tea with milk, sugar, and stevia (the stevia is an attempt to have a sweet AM beverage without creating a total AM cavity extravaganza).

Safeway has bacon on sale for $4.88 this week, so the mister bought way too much of the stuff. We're trying to work our way through it.

Baked bacon is better than fried. Healthier, too and without all the mess. Put it on a cooling rack over a cookie sheet so the fat drips down. Bake at 400 for 12-20 minutes depending on cut and desired crispness. A minute or two before taking it out, brush it with whatever sauce or marinade you want. I think this morning, I'm going to brush it with maple syrup since we have a little left that needs using. It's pretty amazing.
