This morning feels like the very beginnings of a return to normalcy and sanity

I woke up this morning not thinking about grabbing the phone to see what outrageous, silly or illegal thing that orange one has done. Instead, I enjoyed the warmth of being snuggled by our new rescue dog (our first little dog, a Feist type, and the first that shares the bed with my wife and I) - my lab was licking my face, our other dog did his morning jump on to the end of our bed. I thought of the frost on the lawn, of making coffee, of listening to our morning music and my wife and I chat about what we are going to do today.

I turn to DU - and there are posts about Farm ownership, bank evictions due to COVID fall out, about the climate and global warming, about Thanksgiving. Sure, a few orange jerk related things were sprinkled throughout (he is not gone yet) - but there wasn't a full stop blaring siren slate of it's outrageous tweets and lies hijacking the discussions.

Because my wife and I don't watch TV or listen to the radio, trump didn't quite rent as large a space in our brains as many others have had to put up with, but his assholery was always there. Today, I want to focus on the hope of what lies ahead once Jan 20 arrives - on what I am going to cook for our Thursday dinner, about where we will walk the dogs.

There are a heap of broken things and troubles that our new president and vice president will have to tackle. But maybe they - and we - can deal with them one at a time, or at least without the red flashing light pace of a tweeting asshole who never did have any good ideas, plans or concerns for his office or his people.

Happy Tuesday, DU!

Hope all is well in your neck of the woods - it is certainly different here, 4 hours west of you!

To mix up Lao Tzu and Neil Armstrong, we actually took a giant leap on November 3.

And one of the greatest 2 minutes of any speech at any time says it far better than I could:

This is the most positive I've been in 4 years, and this is going into the worst part of the pandemic.

Because we will very soon have really competent folks to run this country again, I couldn't be happier. I'm not sure if I will survive all of this, but with Joe and Kamala leading the way, I am certain that my family, friends, and fellow Americans will not only survive but thrive.

We got our country back, folks! Let's get those 2 GA Senate seats, and then we're really on our way!

He knows he has zero path to victory, he's known that for weeks. What he's doing now is harming America, but I think the real reason he's doing it was to rob the joy from people who want to celebrate his defeat.

This has been over for a while, relax, it's all for show now. Donald Trump will not be our President in less than 60 days. He'll make some noise between now and then, but that's all it is, noise.

Trump is a cornered rat who will do anything to stay in office.

It would not surprise me if he manufactured a crisis, declared martial law, and suspended the transfer of power to Biden. He would be expecting the 79% of Republicans that believe the election was "stolen" from him to violently support his actions.

The absence of pain stands out. We won't have to worry about Biden running afoul of the law and every twist and turn of whether he is brought to justice or gets away with it as with Trump. Imagine going two whole days without hearing or reading about something said by the president, all the while understanding that he is speaking behind the scenes to his staff getting things done... during Fox & Friends! Imagine the presidential daily briefing book being read by the president in its entirety every single morning, the real one, not the comic book version currently in use.

Ahhh...

What strikes me is that cabinet appointments actually have some background and qualifications as opposed to being appointed to thank someone for past loyalties or to further the aims of some industry group.

And does it ever feel good to see women and minorities in such positions.

Now if we can just get through Melania's hideous holiday decorations....

-----------------

and one other thing: isn't it refreshing to think of the president actually thinking about his job instead of sitting around tweeting out pettiness? Wow!!
