The text of the article (emphasis mine):
I. Le paragraphe 3 du chapitre IV de la loi du 29 juillet 1881 sur la liberté de la presse est complété par un article 35 quinquies ainsi rédigé :
« Art. 35 quinquies. Est puni dun an demprisonnement et de 45 000 euros damende le fait de diffuser, par quelque moyen que ce soit et quel quen soit le support, dans le but quil soit porté atteinte à son intégrité physique ou psychique, limage du visage ou tout autre élément didentification dun fonctionnaire de la police nationale ou dun militaire de la gendarmerie nationale lorsquil agit dans le cadre dune opération de police. »
II. Larticle 35 quinquies de la loi du 28 juillet 1881 sur la liberté de la presse ne font pas obstacle à la communication, aux autorités administratives et judiciaires compétentes, dans le cadre des procédures quelles diligentent, dimages et éléments didentification dun fonctionnaire de la police nationale ou dun militaire de la gendarmerie nationale.

(18,356 posts)I think it's important to understand the actual text of the statute before weighing in with an opinion. Statutory language is specialized, and it's important to get a grasp of exactly what might be open to interpretation.
Google translate is great for everyday stuff, but it's too imprecise a tool for the exactitude of statutory language.
This is my reading of the French clause.
