This is how the city I grew up in is handling the 'Santa Situation', this holiday season.

I think it's a lovely plan.

(Side note: Grand Blanc is just south of Flint, MI. There is an interesting story behind the city's name that I'll share another time, in the Lounge.)

City of Grand Blanc - Government & Community Services

This has been an incredibly hard year for our community, but especially our children. We borrowed an awesome, socially distanced idea of bringing Santa to the kids of our community. On December 4th and 5th starting about 5:30 PM, our Grand Blanc City Fire Department will be driving Santa through the City of Grand Blanc neighborhoods escorted by the City of Grand Blanc Police Department. Santa will cover half of the city on each night. We will have more updates, including routes, as we get closer to the date. Stay tuned 🙂 #wearegb #communitymatters #communityservice

with Santa riding along tossing candy. They honk the horn to let everyone know they’re coming and everyone rushes outside to wave and watch Santa slowly pass through the neighborhood. Everyone — kids and grown ups alike — look forward to this event which typically takes place around Thanksgiving.

As for this year, the city and township have been hard hit by Covid, although the situation in the city appears to have really improved. Both have historically been very heavily GOP areas but this year my niece noticed a shift in the city, with far more signs for Democrats than in the past. One can only wonder if this 'evolution' was sparked by trump*'s non-response to the pandemic. Something definitely shifted. The township, where the vast majority of the cases are located, is still deep red.

Side note: This is the school district where my brother works, and he caught Covid very early in the spread. He's fine, now.
