We are watching Ken Burns "The Roosevelts" on PBS Passport - watched "The War" last week

Reminding ourselves of history is really important. Teddy was certainly quite a character - but, wow, FDR - the way he dealt with polio, having to come in after a horrendous republican president (HHH) and DO so much early on to try to turn things around. Fireside chats on the radio. Getting out and in the midst of the people. And Eleanor, of course, who did so much (we are just at pre WW2 in the series, so her great contributions are just beginning).

Joe and Kamala coming in after our current republican president disaster certainly has its general parallels. What Joe can accomplish quickly will be something to observe with great interest, and great need.

And with respect to WW2 - so, so many lessons in that one as well.

While we are watching those in the evening, we are re-listening to Herman Wouk's War and Remembrance. So, the book we are listening to dramatizes much of what we are seeing in Ken Burns' series.

We are cooking much of our Thanksgiving meal today - stuffing, turkey, cranberry orange relish, pumpkin pie, gravy - so tomorrow will be an easier day - peas and mashed potatoes to cook, and the other stuff to rewarm...and of course, whip the cream for the pie! Just my wife and I and our three dogs and two cats. Supposed to be mid 60s, so a long walk in a nearby forest will be on the menu.

Happy Wednesday, all!

The Winds of War and War and Remembrance are great books; I've read them both.

We're having traditional Thanksgiving except that the dessert will be angel food cake with whipped cream and strawberry sauce. Neither of us are big pumpkin pie fans.
