This morning I saw a piece on CBS that featured the Parler CEO (or founder or something like that), and he emphasized over and over they are a community-run and monitored site for everyone... WE are part of everyone. I don't know how many DUers there are, but if a significant majority of us joined Parler I have to think we might be a voice to be reckoned with. While we don't always agree on how the Democratic party should proceed, we are more alike than not. No drama, just verifiable facts, repeated over and over and over and over... I know some would rather poke their eyes out with a fork, but in the spirit of Thanksgiving and all, why not share some truth with those who are unable or unwilling to see the light?

(246 posts)I love this idea. Simple and potentially effective. I especially love that you advocate posting simple facts rather than trashing people and their opinions. Not to say their opinions shouldn't be countered, but neutral/factual presentation with a side of understanding can be powerful. Granted there are times for righteous anger and condemning behaviors, but a forum for voicing opinions + disseminating information seems a good place to try to pierce the veil of propaganda by appealing to truth and common humanity.
I'd love to see replies by DUers willing to get on board. Knowing others are on board would help my motivation and provide an encouraging sense of camaraderie. We could even share our reflections on the process. It would also help me feel less alone, take heart and endure the inevitable inevitable frustration and anger I'd encounter along the way.
So not all, sorry.

Trust me, this won't end well.
What do they call a tweet over there? A bleat?

(10,800 posts)We bicker among ourselves enough here and we love our community. Why go to a place where a vast majority of them despise me and mine. It's really not worth the headache.

(9,263 posts)a lesson and that has taken on a life of its own. Next idea in few days/weeks is to say Soros OWNS parler to collect their data. That will be fun big time!!!! Next is to say the anti-mask movement was fueled by govt agencies building their facial recognition data base, the lists is endless

(101,311 posts)It may prove to be an effective way to discourage casual joiners who aren't committed to their cause - "to join, you have to give us a photo and SSN, so you have to (a) trust us (ie the Cambridge Analytica crew, and far right nutters) not to misuse that ourselves and (b) not to screw up again and get hacked. So, how much do you really want to join?"

(94,513 posts)As with Twitter, the critical content that drives discussion doesn't come from ordinary people like you or me. It comes from people with 50,000 + followers. At Parler, these "influencers" are all hard-right conservatives. Getting 10,000 progressives to sign up would have no impact on the messaging content.

(13,783 posts)... e-mail. I am curious about an entity called JustNews, which seems to be posting nothing but flattering (to me... but not inflammatory to the other side) things about Dem officials. I can't tell if it's a left wing troll or if, as someone here suggested, I just don't understand how negatively the far right sees smart, humane behavior.

Slow but sure I'm seeing people on DU making comments too. The constant barrage works. I know point and laugh at the idiots is fun. I engage sometimes myself... and old enough to know better. Personally I'd like to see the point and laugh posts dwindle down to almost nothing on DU. We do have plenty of serious posts about real issues to be address but generally, those tend to sink like a rock while we all chase the next shiny thing. And like I said, I'm guilty too ... right this minute. You'll see I popped your OP back to the top with this post.

(5,306 posts)It's called "liberal forum", we have both libs and cons and the cons are as hard core as they come. We love kicking their asses on a daily basis. There's usually less than 30 members online at any given time so when I have time to waste it's fun to get into heated arguments with them.
I use that site for fun, but when I want good, honest intelligent conversation nothing beats my friends here at DU!!

(62,270 posts)You have to understand this. It is fueled by people taking it seriously.
The great "creationist" debates in the late 90s and early 2000s existed because we acknowledged them, debated them, discussed topics with them, and then our public schools were actually considering allowing them to spread their "alternate hypothesis." You cannot, you cannot, give them the platform by acknowledging their ideas as good, worthy of consideration. They should be ignored. Don't worry, there will be people (not you) debating, chronicaling, and overviewing what they're saying over there. You don't have to do that part. Don't give them a platform, don't legitimize their concepts. Because they are liars, false prophets, evil, evil people.
