Trump fpr 4 years
snip----
Wilson predicts there will be calls for goodwill and healing as Joe Biden enters the White House, but he urged the new administration and Democratic lawmakers not to fall for that trick.
The other side will work daily to sabotage not only a legislative agenda but the nation itself, Wilson writes. Remember, the Trump GOP is shorn of all ideological and philosophical pretense, and even when Trump leaves office, its not over. His cultists reign of terror will shape elected GOP members as long as he and his foul spawn walk the earth unpunished.
Only exposure, pain, humiliation, and (inshallah) incarceration will lead to a moment of reckoning for the GOP, he adds. It should start at the top and work down from there.

(4,898 posts)What I want President Biden to do is appoint an AG, who would then appoint a hard-ass Special Prosecutor, who would then hire a team of even harder, subpoena-hitting attorneys and investigators who will go after the tRumpists with search warrants, hand carts (to haul off evidence), and plasma cutters (to open locked filing cabinets and safes).
I don't want much, but I do want this.

Without accountability our democracy will fail.

(6,828 posts)Whereas President Biden need not burden his term pursuing Trump's stench trail, after all, SIMPLE JUSTICE should be sufficient for that task, he is also the Democratic party leader. It is in that capacity that he can and should applaud, publicly, loudly and often, every effort that uncovers the lawlessness that IS (save for a very few) the current crop of Republican Senators and congresspersons. Their hypocrisy and perversions of good order as they thwart the will of the people (and they WILL do this) should be written at the top and closing of every speech he gives. ONLY if he knows a crime is public and provable should he publicly and personally support prosecution for the crime and the felon.
Unity? There can be no unification with some of these people. It would be as if a law-and-order mayor chose to fight crime by encouraging law enforcement to join forces with criminals. NEO-Republican voters will naturally fall away, losing interest, chasing other butterflies as soon as being a Trump supporter is not a "thing"; like ice melting, returning to its faceless homogeneity with scotch. Those that don't should be summarily brought up on the appropriate weapons charges, fined and sent on their way into obscurity. Nothing left to unify with in either closed case. The remaining Republicans, those misguided, misinterpreting, perpetual installations of misunderstanding await the justice of geology as they obstinately retain their ridiculous, unyielding pose; subducted, along with their perverse platitudes, while the earth's crust moves incrementally, crushing, mixing and recycling their essential non-political biometry.
Or then we could just let them take over again in 2024.

Sounds familiar. Too often we see cops hanging out with ProudBoys and the like. This country, probably like many others but nevertheless shamefully, has a history of many dirty cops. Think of those, for instance, who were in cahoots with the gangsters of the prohibition era and those who joined with those perpetrating crimes of race hatred. We have got to figure out a way to clean all that up, along with the R party.

(6,828 posts)Surely there must be a distinction in the priority of enforcement between "blue laws", laws about prohibition of such as drugs, prostitution and abortion vs laws that PROTECT the general public against racism, pollution, murder, assault, robbery, extortion and other "white collar crimes".
I sincerely expect that enforcement of the latter will eliminate corruption across the board thus kneecapping the Republican party as well as the radically racist elements within your local PD.
Ever notice how "conservative" politicians ALWAYS run on strengthening "blue law" enforcement while ignoring and denying the consequence of violating protection laws, always colluding with the most successful career criminals, their main supporters?

(9,760 posts)to make the sleazy things they do legal, or at least shield the perpetrators from meaningful consequences for their harmful activities. Which allows them to attain more power/money which they use to consolidate more money/power, in an endless cycle.
Hard not to feel hopeless about the prospects for change. Especially when its not just wealthy Rs who participate in this unjust cycle. Frustrating to read of how Dems in power let Trumps get away with nefarious real estate malfeasance in NYC because, basically, they were all in it together.

I do want ALL of those fuckers to be accountable for their treason, if that doesn't happen the future is uncertain. Traitors must be made to pay a heavy price, is the only way to eliminate future possibilities.

(9,722 posts)Never forget the last four years, never forget the morass we waded through holding on to the smallest thread of sanity allowed us. Never forget the death and destruction this administration has foisted upon us.
Teach your children exactly what went on these last four years, how close we were almost a dictatorship with a healthy chunk of the populace going along willingly, even eagerly.
If we do not denounce and hold those involved criminally accountable with in depth investigations, prosecutions and righteous punishment, the lessons we were shown will be wasted; we will prove to ourselves we cannot learn it will happen again. Next time we may not be as lucky.
We punish our children when they are wrong so the same mistakes, hopefully, will not be made again, we punish to teach. Imagine the spoiled brats we would raise sans punishment.
We cannot let these indiscretions just fade away, that would leave a hole the size of Jupiter in our closely held morals, nothing would matter anymore. It just wouldnt.

(6,186 posts)..... to what some of us think. Sedition and Treason should be headliners for Donnie and Moscowmitch. There are a number of GOP Senators who also cross that line. Nunes and Johnson (WI) come to mind.
As for others, the tRump kids starting with Jarvanka and the boys, all had access to our national secrets and likely traded some for financial gain. The 666 building bailouts certainly deserve a deep audit with treason on the table.
In short, the tRump name should become synonymous with the WW II tyrants that cause the deaths of millions.
As for other "GOP-grubby-sellouts" who took foreign (NRA conduit) money to stay in office to prop up tRump and his agenda, banishment and humiliation is a fair place to start but keeping incarceration and treason on the table.
I guess I'll have to leave it there because I'm fairly sure burning at the stake is frowned upon in today's civilized world.

(833 posts)Jailing political enemies and those who harm the body politic will only lead to retaliation when the tables are turned, and they will be at some point. Jailing political enemies and those who harm the body politic for actual statutory crimes is something else entirely and should be the objective in any advanced society. Only that will set an example and have some chance of deterring future criminality in office. I have no doubt the criminality is present in this case, for dump and others in his circle but probably not for Moscow Mitch. Unfortunately, prosecution will have to take place in a state court, as by that time, all concerned will have been pardoned from federal exposure. But, then, there sits SCOTUS, and will that clown car keep a straight course if an appeal reaches them. Doubtful. Improbable. Still, an overturned conviction is better than no conviction at all.

Democrats "move on" and then expect the Republicans to appreciate that. (11,566 posts)Why would we ever give Republicans a pass? To what end? Giving criminals a pass in the false name of unity is generally a mistake that only compounds over time. We've seen the criminal trajectory from Nixon to Reagan to Bush to ultimately, the in-your-face Trump crime spree. Moving forward in the name of unity has only given them a green light, and their crimes have increased in audacity and intensity. To their core, they believe they are entitled and only a serious comeuppance will slow them down. Let's not be naive.

(36,055 posts)There is sufficient public evidence of intent and harm to
First, prosecute the pardons.
The presidents pardon power cannot be used to:
(1) pardon state crimes,
(2) remove federal civil liability,
(3) pardon impeachment, or
(4) pardon crimes that have not already occurred
.
A pardon can only apply to actions that occur before it is issued, but any obstructive pardons would be a continuation of a provable conspiracy, so the crime would be ongoing.
Put another way: you cannot pardon a crime when the pardon itself continues the crime.
Second, prosecute corrupt enablers. They can all be prosecuted Federal Law Title 18, Section 3.
Our new AG and DOJ have so many to prosecute, that the news coverage will bring on all the howling humiliation we could want.
