David's wife, actress Kathy Fields, told the outlet that both she and their daughter Natalie were by his side at the time of his passing.
Lander was interested in acting from an early age, and he landed his first screen credit at the age of 22 in the television series Department S in 1969.
He went on to appear in several high-profile 70 sitcoms, including The Bob Newhart Show, Rhoda and Happy Days.
The role of his lifetime, however, was as the funny-voiced Squiggy on Laverne & Shirley, which ran from 1976 until 1983.
David appeared in 156 episodes throughout the series run.
The show starred Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams as the titular pair of roommates, who often squared off opposite Landers character and that of Michael McKean, who played Lenny Kosnowski.

(166,046 posts)1. I had heard this on the radio when I got up this morning
and only heard part of the story - mainly referencing "Laverne & Shirley" (that I did religiously watch) but missing who they were talking about.
"Squiggy"!

Perhaps St. Peter was describing some amazing characteristics and then he popped through the door saying Hello!
RIP sir, you provided me with many iconic quotes as the character Squiggy!
I found these on YouTube:

I did not realize that he was in "Department S". I watched it regularly.
