Very loudly and with purpose.

We have them by the balls, we do. The only reason justice wasn't served is because it was subverted. But that subterfuge evaporates the moment Joe raises his right hand.

This whole bullshit challenge of election results in 2020 is a direct response to our very legitimate charges of conspiracy and felony violations of election laws against Trump and the GOP arising out of the sham 2016 election. It's a propaganda technique that they've employed for 4 years straight. Accuse your opponent, pre-emptively, of a crime or offense that you yourself have just perpetrated. Makes it look like we're the ones making it up, since they've already "made their case". People are so easily duped.

But on the whole it's exaggeration, hyperbole and just basic disinformation. They file it away in their brains as truth and fact.

When we hit them with the truth, about them, about us, they can't compute. It doesn't line up. And they have been conditioned not to trust any source except for the ones they've carefully assembled for them.

No wonder the Russians are involved. They're the ringleaders, and people like McConnell know it.

Once you roll out the tanks you have a lot of momentum.

Most of the coups I have lived through are immensely popular because the military moves in to stop a gang of politicians who are rubbing the country blind.

In time they become less popular.

Bill Barr was allowed to become the AG again, because people thought that he would be an "adult in the room". The asshole was crooked since the Reagan Administration. He was GHW Bush's AG and helped to cover up the last of the Iran-Contra Affair, and somehow people (both Republicans AND Democrats) thought that he warranted another term? He warrants being behind bars.

Cheney and Rumsfeld were Nixon people. War criminals who should have been investigated, tried, and when found guilty (because they were), put in prison.

indictments, trials, and yes, convictions and imprisonments.

It is important that the legal due process takes care of this, or else we end up with a Robespierre-esque reign of terror. The accountability must be aboveboard, and widespread enough to discourage a repeat in the foreseeable future, and harsh enough to be just, with the punishment fitting the crimes.

27. NPR's 1A program this morning
Wed Dec 9, 2020, 08:14 PM
Dec 2020

discussed the topic of Trump's attempted coup. They had a couple of experts on the subject whose names and titles I don't remember now. One of them was a professor, I think, with expertise on coups and authoritarian takeovers of democracies.

He pointed out what has been discussed here on DU, that the Republican party has been moving in this direction for a long time. He also said that in today's world, military coups are not common. Instead, authoritarian people get control of a party and political positions. When they have enough people in power, and enough followers, they remove democratic norms and establish a dictatorship while often keeping the superficial appearance of some democratic norms, like (rigged) elections.

This is not possible without a sizeable number of citizens willing to accept authoritarianism. Once entrenched in government, it is very difficult to get them out. So even when Trump is out of office, the authoritarian movement will still exist and there will still be people in government, and their followers, pushing farther and farther right.

A woman on the program said that we will need to investigate corruption and the people who have supported Trump's coup attempt. We need to expose the authoritarian coup supporters to the general public. She also strongly advocated public educational efforts on how our government is supposed to operate, and on the norms of democracy and our constitution because it is the best defense against further RW authoritarian spread. She did not specify what those programs should be.

I can think of a few things, e.g. short public service announcements, like 30 or 60 second spots on sections of the constitution or bits from American history, on TV network stations and social media. Some longer programs featuring well known and respected leaders showing how authoritarian coups have occurred in other countries might be helpful. Let people see and recognize the parallels.

Like the idea of public service announcements, too!

Wed Dec 9, 2020, 08:28 PM
Dec 2020

At this point, it's unlikely to succeed, but we need to have closure from the SC to get to that point.
Who could have possibly predicted this 4 years ago?
We knew Trump was bad, but this is beyond imagination.

What happens if the Supreme Court rules in favor of those 18 states?
I don't believe the Electoral College would meet and vote without these 4 states.
In fact, it may be difficult to support the election results of any state that had large numbers of absentee ballots if it is found unconstitutional for these 4 states.

It could take 6 months or more to resolve the mess. In the meantime, a lot of Senators, Congressmen, and state and local officials wouldn't be able to be sworn in, since an invalidated election is for all who were on the ballot.
And, of course, Trump can't be president after January 20th, and Pence can't be vice-president.

So, will the Supreme Court take a bite out of this shit sandwich, or will they tell Trump and all those seditious Republicans who signed onto this garbage to go pound salt?
I expect we will know before the Electoral College is scheduled to meet next Monday.
I also expect the Biden/Harris ticket to be elected by the EC.
But, that will probably not be the end of it. After all, there are millions of people still fighting the Civil War over 150 years later.

Lock him up.

The other 19 Democratic-winning states get together with DC and sue them back for sedition, and reimbursement of the taxes they benefit from them.

18 states: Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Minnesota, Illinois, New York, Virginia, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Maryland.

Force the 17 secessionists to pay back what they receive each year from the blue states. Enough of their BS!!

On 20 June 2019, a terrorism court in Turkey sentenced 151 people to life in prison, including General Akın Öztürk, former commander of Turkish Air Force, and the most senior officer involved in the coup. 128 people received "aggravated life" sentences, which indicates harsh conditions without parole, for their role in the coup, with another 23 receiving standard life sentences.

America’s Next Authoritarian Will Be Much More Competent
Trump was ineffective and easily beaten. A future strongman won’t be.

NOVEMBER 6, 2020
Zeynep Tufekci
Contributing writer at The Atlantic

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/11/trump-proved-authoritarians-can-get-elected-america/617023/

snip...

Make no mistake: The attempt to harness Trumpism—without Trump, but with calculated, refined, and smarter political talent—is coming. And it won’t be easy to make the next Trumpist a one-term president.

At the moment, the Democratic Party risks celebrating Trump’s loss and moving on—an acute danger, especially because many of its constituencies, the ones that drove Trump’s loss, are understandably tired. A political nap for a few years probably looks appealing to many who opposed Trump, but the real message of this election is not that Trump lost and Democrats triumphed. It’s that a weak and untalented politician lost, while the rest of his party has completely entrenched its power over every other branch of government: the perfect setup for a talented right-wing populist to sweep into office in 2024. And make no mistake: They’re all thinking about it.
