92% of the detainees were never al-Qaeda fighters. 86% were turned over to coalition forces for a bounty. Only 5% were captured by U.S. soldiers.

Number of children detained at Gitmo: 21 (the youngest was 13.)
The oldest detainee was 98.

More than 200 FBI agents reported abusive treatment of detainees

At least 16 were tortured in overseas secret prisons before getting to Gitmo

8 detainees have died. 6 were suicides, including a detainee who arrived at Gitmo at age 16 and killed himself at age 21.

But that doesn't mean others around the world aren't laying plans to exact justice for these crimes against humanity. My fervent hope is that those doing so are respectful of the rule of law in ways our country isn't, and proceeds with regular rules of criminal procedure in an attempt to convict those guilty. However, I fear that that won't be the case, and that our citizens will be subject to blanket reprisals by righteously angry survivors or the friends and families of our victims. Reprisals that will depend less on actual guilt or innocence, and more on the ability to strike a person.

But none of us mind getting injured or killed as penance for our nation's disgrace, right? We're all just fightin' for freedom! And if some folks make a gazillion dollars off of war and torture while others get killed in reprisal, well, only a dirty fucking hippie would object to that.

Plain and simple. We deserve every bit of karma coming our way for this obscenity.

the powerless 99%.

If you are going to assign the guilt of the actual war criminals to all Americans, then why not assign it to the world at large? That way, no one can ever be held responsible or even be shamed into feeling guilty.
