No one has lost quite like Donald Trump in nearly 150 years

He's pushing his doomed election fight farther than any defeated candidate since 1876

Donald Trump is now a history-making loser.

His doomed crusade to overturn the U.S. election result crossed a milestone following electoral college meetings Monday that formally selected Joe Biden as the next president.

Not in a century and a half, since the post-Civil War era, has a defeated presidential candidate continued to challenge the results past those electoral college meetings.

"This is off the charts," said Alexander Keyssar, a professor at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and author of a book on the history of the electoral college.

I have - like many I'm sure - a visceral reaction to Donald Trump's smug face that conveys that he thinks he is better than everyone else and better at everything than everyone else. I don't have to go into all his underhanded business practices and other behavior. We all know it. Yes, he'll have a reputation for a while as a real estate magnate until he can no longer pull off that charade, but in the long run, his legacy will be that of a loser. No one remembers that Herbert Hoover was a very financially successful mine operator - or if they do, they don't use in some desperate attempt to rehabilitate the man. Just that he lost to FDR.

Magical thinking is everywhere a potent force simply because so many subscribe to it. Trump was/is a pioneer in that sense.
