Is there a Senate Chaplain to begin with.
I see cost savings right there to be had. Use that salary to fund families in need.

They want to feel they're doing the right thing, or God's will, or something like that when they vote (or refuse to vote) so they requested a (supposedly) non-denominational chaplin to open meetings and console them in their privileged status.
Federally employed Chaplins are supposed to be moral counselors/therapists for those in doubt of their mission or judgements.
They're also supposed to be non-discriminatory as to personal religion or degree/lack thereof, which is not always the case, depending on the amount of wing-nuttery Congress will allow.
