'You Have the Wrong Place:' Body Camera Video Shows Moments Police Handcuff Innocent, Naked Woman Du

CHICAGO (CBS) — For the first time, police body camera video reveals what an innocent woman said happened to her nearly two years ago: police officers wrongly entered her home with guns drawn and handcuffed her naked as she watched in horror.

Last year, Anjanette Young filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for the video to show the public what happened to her that day. CBS 2 also filed a request for the video. But the Chicago Police Department denied the requests.

Young recently obtained the footage after a court forced CPD to turn it over as part of her lawsuit against police.

“I feel like they didn’t want us to have this video because they knew how bad it was,” Young said. “They knew they had done something wrong. They knew that the way they treated me was not right.”

Hours before the TV version of this report broadcast, the city’s lawyers attempted to stop CBS 2 from airing the video by filing an emergency motion in federal court.

The humiliation she had to endure is just heartbreaking.

Since they hit the wrong house and the person they were looking for was in house arrest with a monitor the level of stupidity cannot be fathomed. Once they realized their horrific mistake the sergeant should have stationed to uniforms at her ruined door. A woman counselor should've been sent to help the woman deal with her trauma. A locksmith and repairman to fix the doorway and door + lock.
A housecleaning company to help return a ransacked mess back into a home. And then public apologies by the individual law enforcement crew including whoever it is that made the error on the address and the chief of police and the major.

Then an attempt to make financial restitution for the mental anguish and physical destruction.

Why is it that the knocking is with a ram? This many men could've watched every window and possible exit. It is just inexcusable.

I know exactly why the CPD tried to prevent the release of this damning video.

For example, the officers on scene placed a coat over Ms. Young and when they noticed it was too short, they placed a blanket over her. That all occurred in the first two minutes. The blanket kept slipping off, and so a officer held it closed to cover Ms. Young. That seems like a reasonable course of action that balances the need to secure the premise with the need to provide a sense of modesty.

That said, I feel like this also exposes some deep flaws in the police department's culture. For example, they did not follow their own policy to vet their informant's tip. Additionally, it is quite clear the sergeant on scene came to realize they had messed up and needed to make amends, and the department should have followed up on his lead. Instead they tried to bury the incident, which only inflames the damage done.

That department's management needs to be held to a higher standard of accountability and/or purged in my opinion.

And as many have pointed out .. a simple admission of mistake and apology (which some police forces have found themselves capable of doing) can go a long way in helping rectify the screw-ups.

Breonna Taylor is probably crying in heaven...at the humiliating injustice portrayed here, yet I'm sure that 23-year-old young black male with electronic monitoring device was lucky. I'm sure many of the fascists/white supremacist in the raiding party couldn't wait to pull the trigger...

and many more sources have these facts as well as our MSM. They are not reporting on this terrorist threat with any consistency. This is also the fault of the states' attorney and judge who made toilet paper out of the warrant. They are the reason for this botched raid in which their officers of the law caused her humiliation in front of all those white males. They let this woman stand naked while they rampage through the woman's home. They all seem to be white males also. Shaming was also their intent. EVIL!!!!

This is purely shameful.

We do live in a police state.

Officer high on steroids and adrenaline: “We believe your story”.

Really? Story???

How about you say to her: “We believe you”.

It wasn’t a “story”. That implies something made up like a “bedtime story”.

She was telling you the truth. This stuff happens often enuf that when a ‘suspect’ being disturbed in their own home, crying, and naked and freaking out, maybe the steroid-engorged officers should take a breath and think: Wow, do we have this wrong?

I do understand that raids need to happen quickly, to avoid suspects hiding evidence, or attempting to run. But, there needs to be more verification, better recon, better policies.

This is just shameful.
And as the old saying goes, It isn’t the crime, it’s the coverup.
The b@stards didn’t want it to go public. Wonder why.
